Awning Poll and discussion

Since there have been some questions on awnings, how they are used and cleaned, and which are preferred power or manual I thought maybe a poll and discussion thread was in order.

Please feel free to discuss your choices/experiences with replies in the thread.

Since I only have a manual awning and have never had a power awning, I guess I answered the best I could. :hihi:

BTW, Crabman... your results could be skewed if you let everyone answer "I have no opinion" even after they express their opinions! LOL

That`s OK our results are always skewed anyway. If I don`t like the way a poll is going I`ve been known to cook the books a bit myself! The other day I placed 126 votes for International Scout trucks in the truck poll to garner attention to the poll! But alas, very few even noticed.

I loved International Scouts... used to drive one when I was much younger with a snow plow on the front end. When I moved to Texas, a guy I worked with would only buy Scouts... he's gone now but I was always amazed he could find a new one when his own one crapped out. LOL

We have the Carefree Eclipse on our SENECA and if someone sneezes it wants to go over the roof. Luckily only the fabric will end up there but it is still a PITA. It's a shame that JAYCO continues to allow "suppliers" (Carefree, Power Gear) to damage their good name.

That`s what we want to hear, actual experiences good bad or ugly so folks can make informed decisions. Also tips we learn by the school of hard knocks and pass on may save someone else some time, aggravation, and money!

I believe the problem with each type of awning is the user not being totally able to use the benefits of each type.

I do love my power awning and find cleaning it easier than the manuals I had in the past.

I probably would like the power awning if it was adjustable. However it is not and must be rolled in at the slightest breeze. Never again!

I wish we could have had a choice when we bought our Eagle. I would have ordered a manual. An enclosed screen room is not possible with the electric.

I have a carefree power awning and like it. Haven't had any problems with it so far....touch wood. It is adjustable and very easy to operate.

I like our power awning, but really it is just one more electrical device that one day will have to be fixed. If we had the option, we would have ordered a mechanical awning.

Really, I really liked my Add-A-Room LTD and thought the quality was great. Owned it from 2003 until 2011 and it held up fantastic, even had the hard door option which is quite rare.

I love the power awning, but I am concerned about what I read with the wind damage. It would probably make sense to get the auto retract option, but I have other camping priorities.

I bought one in 2010 and it was trashed in 2010... my Patty-o-room is still going strong (used it for 5 years no problem)... will try to "cross breed" the two...

In just a couple days the awning poll has almost caught the truck poll in votes. Hardeee.

We have a manual awning, but after moving up from a pop up with a roll it up by hand awning we thought we were in Heaven with this one! We've had no problems with our awning, it's easy enough to do by yourself.
