Awning problem

my 2016 23rlsw had a piece break off the end cap on awning cylinder for some reason? Never heard a noise when retracking awning and just found piece laying on the ground. There seems to be only 2 screws attacking end cap to cylinder so i had handyman put 2 self tapping screws into remaining end cap into cylinder that awning rolls onto. how do i replace end cap or what must i do to keep awning under tension?

Depending on the brand, the cap is usually part of the entire spring assembly.
