Awning questions

I have a small 1990 tent trailer. It has a channel the length of the door side. It appears to be for an awning but I see no supports or arms or brackets.

I did a search here and on the net for kits and/or replacement parts. The channel looks to be the type where you slide the beaded edged of the tarp inside the channel, set supports, stake them down and you're done...would like to purchase the tarp or a kit to make what I need.

Sounds like you're looking for a "trim line" awning. Awning system for PUPs & Pickups.

For more details, surf: http://www.campingworld.com/shopping...-awning/20025d

Hope this helps...

The setup you have sounds similar to what is on the Coleman we had.

The complete awning is contained in a pouch that slides into the channel you describe. With the pouch already installed in the channel, you unzip the pouch's zipper (that also runs the length of the awning). You might want to unzip it right before the roof is completely raised because the zipper can become out of reach for some folks. Then you unroll the awning which is wrapped (and attached) to the support bar. The support bar is a "U" shaped channel that has two telescoping support legs inside. You unfold and extend the legs to the desired height. At each end of the support bar there is a rope that gets staked into the ground which provides the necessary tension to prevent the support bar from falling back into the pop-up.

Hope that helps.

Gee, I never knew it had an actual name. Here's an example of what the pop-up and (bag) awning (note the Japanese lantern lights attached to it) should look like when it's setup. Also note that the awning is slightly lower on one end to prevent rain water from pooling in the awning.

I'll tell you what I did. I bought a wooden dowel that would slide into the channel. I bought a cheap tarp the size I wanted that I could make one roll around the dowel and slide into the channel. You want the dowel small enough to be able to roll the awning around but large enough to not slip out of the channel. Then I put up a couple tent poles and tent stakes to tie it all down secure. Cost me about $25.
Hope that helps.
