Awning shade screen
Just curious if anyone has a shade screen that attaches to their awning and how they like it. I was looking at one from Carefree but wanted to know your experiences. Thanks!

Unless your looking for a color, save yourself some $$$ and just go to harbor freight and buy the mesh ones they sell. Only available in black but i have bought a few for around 30 dollars each

I bought a sun shade with grommets every 2 ft on line for about $24. I'll be trying it next week and if I don't like it I'm not a out much. I couldn't justify the cost of theirs if it ends up being something that gets in the way more than it helps

Awning shade screen
Thanks for the replies. I’m not looking for any special color and was leaning towards black. Also not set on the brand I posted a link to.
Eagleback, I’ll check harbor freight.
Woodworker, if you like yours after using it pls post up the link of what you bought. I’m going camping again in a few weeks to the same spot I just got back from and could have used one. So I may not be able to wait for your results but would still be curious...

It'll be the 29th before I set it up. And because the access to the slot in my roller tube is not accessible without removing the palstic cover on the end I bought some of these things that are made of fabric that slide into the roll tube. You can take the metal hooks out when done and roll the awnening up with the fabric straps still installed. We'll see.

I kept my Carefree sunshade from my prior Eagle and have used it a couple times with my new Jay Flight......., it's nice to have when the entry side of TT is exposed to the hot PM sun. An added benefit is that it stabilizes the awning should the wind pick up.
Solera has an awning sun shade that you slide a small section (around 12" wide) of the screen fabric into the roller tube and it rolls up with the awning, don't have to remove it. The small section of screen fabric has a zipper that the larger screen fabric attaches to. Saves installing/removing the entire sun screen from the awning roller tube every time.

We use a Carefree sun shade and it's been a lifesaver during the summer months.

Made a set for the awning from sun screen material you would drape over garden or other plants that are sun sensitive, got the 60% blocking screen. Cut out the size needed put grommets in every 2 foot or so. Had opportunity to test them out when camped at Ragland Bottoms did help cut down on the amount of sun but have to come up with a weighted bottom such as a heavy bag to keep the wind from blowing them around.
Extra I used to cover the camper tires, doubled up the fabric does a good job of cutting sun while still allowing plenty of air movement around the tires. Hang them from behind the fender skirt using velco strips.

Thanks for all the replies and ideas. Only have one planned trip left so may hold off until next season. If/when I get something I’ll post it here for future reference.

We bought the Carefree screen with the zipper. It's easy to install and we leave the 1 ft part on the awning during the camping season for ease of installation.
I bought the Harbor Freight model but found it to thick and heavy to attach to the awning. I still use it at home but it did not work out with the camper awning.

Our seasonal site faces due west. Unless it gets really hot, I usually work (web site development) outside, under the awning. We have a sunshade purchased from Amazon. It isn't one that is designed specifically to slide into the roller tube, but have grommets on opposing sides.
Ours is a 70% Screen Mesh. It works very well until the sun is directly in view. I have angled it several different ways, but taking a direct hit from the sun doesn't seem to help much. It is better than no mesh, but still tough to see the laptop screen. We only camp seasonally, so perhaps if our awning wasn't facing due West, it would work better.

Me too. Just bought the Carefree EZ Zip sunshade on E-bay. Really nice as it adds a little privacy and blocks 85% of the UV rays.

I apologize. I did end up getting the Carefree 82178802 6’x17’ black awning shade screen back in 2018 and failed to update. It has worked great. Thanks again for all the past replies.
