Question Basement heat

We have a 2018 Jayco HT 28.5 RSTS. The furnace is mounted under the water heater, under the pantry. It has the Climate Shield package. According to my understanding, this means the basement is heated. Does anyone know where/how the heat is directed to the basement?

In our 2016 There is a round vent in the pipes that run to our bedroom. You have to make sure that is open. The cold air intake is in the steps, (which allows more cold air into the coach than it pulls IMO)

Thumbs up

In ours, there are two flexible heat lines that come out of the furnace on the opposite side to the outlet vent. Not sure exactly where they run to but I'm guessing the living area and the bedroom/bathroom. No idea where there would be a vent to open.

On my fifth wheel, there is a louvered area under the steps going up to the bedroom that allows air from the furnace vents to return to the furnace.

It is a closed system like in your house. My rig also has a round heater vent in the large storage compartment that is tapped into the overhead duct. Verify it is open.

These 2 sources of warm air are what keep your tanks and storage area from freezing. Of course the furnace has to be operating.

Smile Basement Heat

I'll go out tomorrow and check for the vent that should be opened. I've been all in and around the basement and never seen one. I'll let you know.

Question Basement Heat

I went out today and looked for a vent into the basement. No luck. Here are several pictures. As you can see the furnace is under the hot water tank. It has two flexible outlet hoses that feed into the back wall of that area. The cold air return is behind the louvers on the opposite side. Inside the pass thru storage area you can see the sheeting that closes in the ducting. That ducting is fed the heat from the furnace behind the flip up door. Inside that door, the flexible hoses come thru from the furnace side of the back wall. You can't see how the flexible hose connects to the ducting inside that area but both hoses connect. I can not find any vent that opens to the basement.

Did you add that plywood panel with the hinges?

Sometimes you'll find a couple 2" holes in the bottom of the ductwork in the floor.

Yes, the original opening was minuscule. See:

Thanks, but if they exist they are in those sections of the floor that I have no access to. Short of tearing the enclosed underbelly material off I have no idea where the holes would be. Doing that might not be enough to find the holes. Even then, I might have to open the duct.

Rent an inspection camera, or buy one.

My knowledge is limited on this but with my brother in laws Class A the basement does not receive hot air directly from the heater. Return air is directed through the basement to the heater.

I had an HT with climate shield and there was no heat routed to the storage areas. My Eagle on the other hand has the heater, water heater, and all exterior plumbing connection in on area behind a wall in the basement storage area. There’s a section of the flexible duct work that aims right at that stuff. Some of that heat then travels into the rest of the storage area. It’s not directly heated. Also the primary vent ducts for the bedroom run over the top of the storage area so maybe a little from that too. And maybe some return air like in the above post. So, no direct heating of the storage area.

Basement Heat

Here's the answer I received from Jayco. I assume it means that there is no direct heat outlet.

"Thanks for contacting Jayco customer service ducting is ran to the underbelly that allows air from the furnace to run down to that underbelly to allow that to heat. I have attached a print showing how that ducting is ran. If you need any further assistance let me know."

If you look at the various bottom details at the top it shows 2" and 4" drop outs which, as I mentioned, would indicate that holes or ducts are placed into the belly. I know our Pinnacle had them as one was visible directly under a floor register.

Bay heat

2019 rlts, 30' eagle ht.
My unit is very similar. If you remove the two flex ducts, and look into the base of the furnace, you'll see the floor cut out below the heater. Roughly 4"x4" going downward, cutout lined with the silver tape.
I don't have much airflow going to the rear, but lots to the bedroom, so I had to do my own investigation. Jayco and the floor plans do not show much. The drwgs will not show a cutout. Hard to detail.
You can get the build drawings from Jayco after the warranty period, with your VIN number.
