Bathroom Door Not Aligned

Has anyone just taken possession of a new 2016 where the bathroom door is not aligned? Could be problems internally down the road as a result?

Our door jam looks normal, but the door fits caddy-wompus in it... more specifically, the space between the door and the jam at the bottom of the door opening has more space between them then the top of the door. Every door we have seen is aligned so that there is equal space between the door and the door itself all the way from the top to bottom of the door and jam.

Dealer rep said that this is normal because as the longer trailers adjust more during road trips, they need to adjust. I get what he is saying, but at the same time my "bullshattony meter" is tacked out. Yeah, right

Least of my worries, but has anyone had alignment issues with their bathroom doors?

Yep mine is not aligned correctly as well. Big crooked gap on top. Par for course, and BS on dealer story.

May be as simple as the rig is racked as it's parked. Which will effect doors differently depending on where they are located in the rig. It can also happen if you don't level properly when setting up. Or it could be they didn't hang it correctly. Do some measuring and see if the opening is square.

We will have a chance to see it perfectly level at the dealer tomorrow.

Just wondering if others have this issue at PDI.

Actually, not sure how to deal with this. Never had a mis-aligned interior door in a new rv door before

Have you taken it in for warranty to correct the alignment? If so, what did 'they' say?

Yes, mine is mis-aligned and does not latch. I never bothered taking it in to the dealer. Just the wife and I in the camper, so we don't worry too much about it. Maybe when I have nothing better to do I will fix it.

I did not take it in for warranty yet. Not a big deal to me. Maybe I will fix it myself, don't really trust the service guys.

We just took delivery of a new 30' Starcraft last Saturday (2017 model) and the door was hung properly. Not thrilled with the large gap at the bottom, but everything was straight and tight. Figured the bottom gap was to allow for uneven sites.

The large bottom gap is to allow for cold airreturn to the furnace when it's running. You get the same thing in mobile homes where there is a central cold air return instead of ducted return like in a house.

Forgot to mention. I think your BS detector is accurate. Our door is aligned and straight with the same gap at the top as the sides as were our other trailers. Never heard of a properly installed door not being aligned at the top.

As said, a larger opening at the bottom of the door is typical and for a reason, circulation. I would check with a square that the jamb is installed properly checking to see if it is square at both sides of the top and bottom. then measure across the opening at the top, middle and bottom. IF those measurements show the jamb to be in square, and the gap at the sides and top are close to the same, and only the bottom of the door has a large gap than I would not worry about that. it is what I would expect to have, and do have.

Good Luck.

Same here. No problem with any doors, nor has there ever been on any of the units I have owned over the years. I try to make sure my units did not come off the line on Friday afternoon!

The large gap at the bottom of the bathroom door is intentional. When your bathroom fan is running it creates a lower pressure inside the bathroom as its pulling air out of the coach. If you flush the toilet during this situation it will pull sewer gas up through the toilet which is horrendous. The large gap at the bottom of the door allows an easy pathway for air into the bathroom which will greatly reduce this bad situation.

Make them fix it. It happens in homes without wheels.

Mine doesn't latch properly too. I'll fix it myself because we keep our camper at our land which is 2 hours (one way) from the dealership.

We fortunately saw this issue on the PDI of our 2016 28BHBE. There was also a large enough space along the length of that bathroom door that if you stood at the right angle, could see into the bathroom. We made them fix it immediately. The dealer did and now it is straight and no space to see thru along the length of the door also.

One thing I did find AFTER we got the trailer home is the radio is mounted crooked.
