Bathroom vent opens while traveling?

My bathroom exhaust vent works itself open while in travel. How and why does this happen? Does anyone else have an issue with this? The first time I noticed it, I had thought that I had left it partially open. However, after verifing it closed before hitching up and traveling, the vent was found partial open again when I arrived at my new destination. Help! 2013 26BH

Welcome to the forum. Not sure why the vent is opening but you may get a better response if asked in the General Jayco chat forum as many of our members do not view the new member intro forum.

I had a 14" vent in a Dodge van that did the same thing. My theory is that as the vehicle goes down the highway the changes in air pressure flex the vent lid just enough to work the lifting mechanism gears a bit loose. From there the rattling vent lid lifts from air flow over it, or maybe pressure from inside. Either way, it will open itself up.

My solution was to install a cup hook in the vent trim from which I stretched a rubber band over to the crank handle. That worked to hold the crank handle in position. For my van often times I would set the handle so the vent was just slightly open for some air flow.

Were I to want to install a rubber band anchor today I think that I would try one of those Command stick on picture hooks. They seal pretty well to smooth surfaces.

FWIW. vic

I would just stop by Wallymart and put a Camco vent cover on it $19

X2 with the vent cover. That will protect you from getting water inside during transit and allows you to open the vent if you want to air out the TT while traveling. The original problem is most likely just from vibration. Mine did same on my Keystone TT and I found that giving it an little extra twist when I closed up did the trick.

The same thing often happend on our old pop-up camper. I would look in the rear view mirror and see it flapping in the wind. Stopping to crank the roof up so I could close the vent just sucked, I guess it's better than having the vent break off. Tightening the crank handle a little more securely before travel solved the problem. The hard part is remembering to do it.

This is the best solution, keep the fresh air moving in the trailer

I leave ours open all the time when traveling cuz, if closed, sometimes the air pressure from the waste vents causes water to come up out of the sink p-traps, especially on windy days. I have a cover over our vent so leaving it open is not a problem.

Thanks to all for the suggestions. I believe I will try the vent cover. Not only a green horn to the forum but, also to owning a TT.

The vent covers are also nice in that you can leave the vent open all the time and rain cannot enter. Mine is just about always open.

You can also check the plastic hand crank on the vent. I had a pop up that would do that all the time, I asked my dealer about it and he said that the crank was most likely stripped out. I didn't believe him because the crank would close it and open it, but when I took the screw out and removed the crank it was stripped..The screw held it tight enough to operate the vent but when the wind would get under the vent going down the highway it would have enough pressure to open it.

Worth a try the cranks are cheap

I also vote for the MaxxAir. One of my fav self upgrades along with the vortex vent fan. leave our vent open almost all the time.
