Batteries Overcharging??
I noticed a smell coming from my battery compartment. Like a battery maybe overcharging? The batteries are only 3 months old. The case of the one on the right felt warmer then the one on the left. I used a laser thermometer and sure enough the one on the right was 85 degrees and the left was 72 degrees, which is quite a bit difference. When batteries are on the same charger, is it possible for just one to possibly overcharge. The Xantrex monitor usually reads anywhere from 12.4 volts to 13.3 volts. Perplexed!! Any diagnosis suggestions.

Just the charger that is built into the converter.

12.4 voltage could be a concern, it indicates that it’s not being charged, but around 12.6 would be a charged battery. Had you been using power for anything while it showed 12.4?
I suggest unhooking the batteries, let them rest for 30 minutes and check the voltage separately with a volt meter. One battery could be bad.
The 13.3 is the correct voltage when the charger is charging.

Just checked the Xantrex read out and it's showing 12.8 volts. I'm always plugged into shore power when not on the road. Have been on shore power for the last three days. The difference in temperature has to be a symptom of something.

Unplug from shore power for a couple hours, don’t use any 12v power and then check the voltage. If it drops below 12.5 or so something is not right and batteries should be pulled and checked by maybe by an auto parts store.
On a related topic, my USB charger that I added, always says 13.4V when the trailer is plugged in, and 12.6 when the trailer is unplugged. Should I be concerned about the constant 13.4V? I just installed a new battery yesterday.

I checked the water in both batteries and the one on the right, the warmer one, took quite a bit of water. I also noticed something different. In the picture, the battery cap from the battery on the left is very clean. The cap from the warm battery has a black build up of some kind. Thoughts?

How you have the batteries connect could be a factor with the charging and discharging of the batteries. With 12 V batteries you want them connected parallel (negative to negative and positive to positive). Using your picture as an example I would then connect the red wire from the bus to the positive post of the right battery and the black wire from frame ground to the negative post of the left battery. If you hook the negative to the right then, in my opinion, the right battery will be doing all of the work resulting in higher amp drain and higher charge rates.

They are connected in parallel. My original post should show that.

Yes I do see that you have your batteries connected in parallel. What I was trying to point out was how those two batteries connected in parallel to each other are connected to the wiring in your 5er..
