battery in the new 237RBS

I noticed when look at buying the 237 today that the battery was already installed and the box was full of water and the battery was dead.

1st it has always been my understanding that a lead acid battery left sitting dead is ruined?

and sitting n a battery box full of water cant be good right?

anyone smarter than me want to chime in?

The battery sitting in some water won't hurt it. Just tell the dealer you want a brand new one installed if you buy it, and not that one charged backup. Yes, a dead one is not good. I drilled a couple of 1/4" drain holes in the bottom of our battery box. Technically, the box is suppose to keep the battery acid contained if it leaks, but some box designs tend to allow quite a bit of rain in.

When we bought our trailer we had to pay for the batteries and the dealer put in new ones.

Are you being charged for batterie(s)?

I would ask for a new one anyway.

I wouldn't trust a battery in an RV that has been sitting in a lot. You have no idea how it's been drained or maintained. If you're spending $20k-$30k on a new RV it's not too much to ask and expect to get a new battery.

They may have put in a new one a few days or weeks ago and the small drains killed it. I asked if a battery was included and they said yes but a 24 cheapo. I went to a local farm store and upgraded to a 27 group battery with a real warranty and brought it with me fully charged to the closing.

But I would demand a fresh off the shelf full deep dischage (not a start/deep battery).
