Been thinking

about giving up Camping. Been doing it 50 years already. Started out in tents than tent trailer than travel trailer. Had great times. Body is not what it used to be and tells me about it. Have not really made up my mind yet but leaning towards it. The price of gas and food out there also has me thinking. Wife gets a little upset every time I have to put gas in Excursion. Have to put 91 octane cause of the program I had put in Computer. Will miss it but we will see

I would give it a lot of thought before selling your current setup (plus prices will be better in the spring). After 50 years of enjoyment, it would be hard to give something up whatever it was. However, I have had ~40+ years and my plan is and will be to slow down more and more as time goes by. ~CA

And I'm thinking it's a wise man to know when to close one book and start a new one. Fifty years is a great run.

If you decide to stop camping, be sure to start something else.

Best to you in whatever you decide. We also have a 50+ year run of camping. We have the same story and were at the same place you are now. We decided not to give it up. We sold the Greyhawk and bought a 22' trailer. We make shorter trips and stay less time, but still enjoy it. As far as a worn out body goes, those short trips are harder on me than the cross-country trips of days gone by. Only you can decide that aspect of it.

It's upsetting that "cost" is a determining factor. That would be a different thread, and I don't want to go there.

pconroy's advice is key to anyone who is aging. Our community of Englewood has a nickname of Wrinklewood: there's a reason for that. Some find it offensive; I think it's funny (and apt). Those folks who stay busy seem to do better than those who don't. And the local expression for those folks that don't do anything is "They have entered God's waiting room."

I always wonder how other countries manage. I guess they drive less. It's also probably why the US leads in RV ownership. Lots of room and cheaper gas.
