I just bought (2) matched (man / womans) aluminum frame hybrid bikes off Craigs List for $40 / pair....I'd call that a lucky score, but deals are out there if you look.

My DH and I are 45. We have Townies and love them! We ride bikes alot at home and could justify the expensive price tag. They are extremely comfortable to ride. That being said, I HATE to bring them camping because they are so expensive and we find that we rarely need more than one speed. I recommend finding a one speed bike, with a wide seat and thicker tires. Walmart has some nice looking ones for around $100. I'm hoping that we have ones (new or used) soon.

Sorry I missed this. I would look for high end used bikes, they tend to live a very long time. Good hybrids from a bike store tend to be $1000.00 range. But on the used market they bring half to less than half of that. Find a local bike shop and let them know your shopping.

I am 70 and have a 21 speed Townie which was around $500 new. I like it very much. DW is 71 and we ended up getting her a 24" 3 speed Electra. Her balance is so poor, she in not able to
ride it anymore, so we will be looking for a trike. CW puts them on sale quite frequently. I keep them locked up with heavy cable in the bed of our TV.
