OK - y'all have a lot of good suggestions, except the 12 gauge. I don't think I'll need one of those - my rifle should do the trick. As a firm believer in gun control (defined as the ability to hit what you are aiming at), the rifle should take care of the problem, one bird at a time. The only other problem is the mess that will be created in the process. And the DW really doesn't want the grandchildren to see that.
So I'll try your suggestions one at a time, and see what works. Thanks everyone !
