Black Streaks

Without having to search a ton of threads; my 5'er has the fiberglass shell/body and I get the black streaks a couple times a year. What does everyone use that will get these streaks off without having to break my elbows from buffing so hard ???

Thanks !!

I use the same Black streak remover. I wet the trailer down with water, spray the Black Streak remover directly on the trailer and use a brush to wash/scrub/rinse the trailer.
Works just fine with very little effort. I would suggest that you wax the area if you use my method. The Black streak remover also removes the wax.

I have a thread on here somewhere to show the difference. I will see if I can find it post for you.

Thanks to all who posted !! Nice looking rig Daryl and Sandy !! I ended up finding an old bottle of 'Krud Kutter' that was left behind in a truck camper my wife and I had purchased about 6 years ago. I noticed Walmart also had this on their shelf. I tried a little bit on a spot and it wiped right off. I washed afterward..

Had our first trip of the season over Memorial Day on the shores of Lake Ontario. It was 88 degrees both days we were at the beach !!!!!!!! Just glad I had plenty of "refreshments" !!!!!

Enjoy the Summer everyone !!!!!!!

Based on the results I've seen here, I may have to get some of the Camco cleaner. 409 has been my "weapon of choice" in the past, but I think I'll at least try the other.

Dumb question: WHAT is causing the black streaks? If it is some type of glue or sealant, why can't the manufacturers use a WHITE sealant so it doesn't show up so much on our trailers? Those streaks are really a pain to have to clean all the time.

I personally haven't found anything better than 4U for cleaning my entire camper. Cost around $30 a gallon (concentrate) and is safe and very effective on everything from melting away black streaks to making a chaulky roof look like new. I usually mix about 2 cups to a 5 gallon bucket and carry a spray bottle mixed a little heavier for any stubborn stain I run across. I'm not going to talk bad about any product but for me it's the best I've found.

I have found Spic & Span to be the easiest and the best. My roof and MaxAir covers look like new. Then I wash again with Turtle Wax car wash/wax. The Spic & Span also is great getting rig of all the squashed insects on the front of the fiberglass cab over on my Class C. The sides and windows clean up real nice.

It is a combination of dirt/grime and the natural deteration of the roof material. Washing your roof a couple of times a year will reduce, but not eliminate, the streaks.

Black streaks are caused by dirt on the roof... get some rubber roof cleaner go up there twice a year and clean the roof then use some of the rubber roof protectant on it....

Cleaning the black streaks... I found a Mr Clean Magic Eraser works wonders

I've found that keeping the roof clean helps a lot on the streaks and a good coat of wax makes them easy to get off

Try a product called "Spray Nine". NAPA carries it and is available in a spray bottle about a quart in size, or a gallon. Price for a gallon is around $20. Well worth the price. It is quick and easy and requires no scrubbing. Been using it for years.

Spray Nine works great and it melts bug guts off also!!! Rinse well and I use turtle wax ice synthetic wax afterwords!!

Just my 2 cents

I use Simple Green on those stubborn spots with a soft car brush or a cleaner wax on the real tough ones. Keep a good coat of wax on the unit and a simple car soap will take them right off with regular maintenance. A clean roof knocks it down a minimum of 50% so keep that clean as possible.

Only use roof type cleaners on the roof.

Another product I have good luck with is "Totally Awesome". It can be found at most Dollar stores. Spray a little on a cloth and wipe the streaks off the side.

Shep, Turtle wax line of products with the ICE name are all great. Best thing of all is that all the black trim on a vehicle does not turn white like when you are using a wax product. Love the stuff.

So the ICE products you can use on vinyl trim to make it shine or at least look newer? Since they eliminated petrolem based products it's been tough to get one to stay wet looking without white streaks from rain or water. I had a gallon of professional based line that I used on my trim but ran out last year. I have yet to find one that is worth anything. My trim and sideview mirrors drive me nuts when they get that grey look to them. Which usally takes only a few hours or days depending on the weather.

I will have to try this product on them.
