Black Tank Disaster Averted!!! (wordy)

Now that spring has officially arrived, I took the opportunity to replace my heated water hose with a new (non-heated) one. While I was at it, I added brass quick connects to both the fresh and black tank inlets.

I have been battling a weepy fresh water connection all winter; so, not wanting to disturb my fresh water connection, I never used my black tank flush. Well, going against the warning stickers (I'm such a rebel), I kept my black tank valve closed while I fired up the flush line. My original plan was to monitor things closely and pull the valve when nearly full to give a big "woosh".

In comes my new neighbor. Class A pulling a small sedan - he unhooks the toad and tops off his fresh water tank. While topping off, his antennae goes up (wife maybe?). The whole time I'm fiddling with my water lines, but, do not want to seem like the "Unabomber", so, I'm looking for them to exit their rig and wave hello.
As we approach the "critical point" of my tank filling, the new guy pulls off in the Class A leaving the toad behind. His antennae is still UP! Here I am running after him trying to get their attention to no avail. They pull out onto the main drag - antennae still standing.

I get back to my rig and the DW hands me a beer and I start to clue her in about the new guy. All of a sudden, my oldest son states: "Daddy... The toilet is making some strange noises!"

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

Caught it just as it crested the bowl, but, before it spewed out the vent.

Neighbor has not returned yet, so, not sure how he made out...

We have all been there, done that. Don't feel to bad. Some of us will admit it.

Glad it did not make a bigger mess!!

I did something very similar except I pulled the valve..... the gray water valve. Thinking I had pulled the black I let it continue to flush.....

I completely flooded the bathroom floor and flowed a few gallons into the heat run on the 2nd stay in our 2011 365 BHS. WE had only stayed 2 nights so I figured it would take a good 10-15 minutes to fill. WRONG!! Took about 7best I can figure.....

Wow, a few years ago a guy in the park with a Jayco Designer forgot about the flusher and blew his tank open. For over a week I could see them walking to the nearest restroom until they were able to get it fixed.

The Class A returned ~ antennae intact. He told me his wife remembered it being up just before they pulled into the local gas station. I guess we were both fortunate yesterday

When I was in Yuma this year I only had to dump my black tank twice. As usual I hooked up the spray and then opened the valve and everything appeared to work (THE FIRST TIME). When I was traveling home at the end of February, I winterized, and then went to dump my black tank, hooked up the spray, turned on the spray and then went to open the black tank only to find that I had forgot to close the tank the first time I dumped. I let the spray run for a considerable time and hope I have not had toilet paper weld to the side of my tank.

Alberta guy, you just need to stay in Yuma longer. I would put about 10 gallons of water in and drive to loosen any problems stuck to the tank.

I have now put my baby back in storage at the family farm. I took my hitch off my truck yesterday, so will have to wait until later this spring or summer and I will then fill it with water and maybe add so sort of softener to the water and see what happens if anything.

I would also add some Calgon water softener to the tank. The soft water will help stop things from sticking. You will find it in the laundry section of the store. I add some after each dump. My black tank stays "clean".

A day before every trip i put a drop in deoderizer in with a few capfulls of calgon in a designated container mix it all up good then pour in the toilet. fill the container about 2-3 more times and pour in the toilet. The enzymes and calgon along with the deoderizer slosh all around in the black tank on the way. After camping and emptying the black tank i drop another deoderizer in and a gallon or so of water from the tank flusher and let it sit til the next time.

you can also dump a bag of ice in the tank before you take off so when you stop it will be melted and ready to drain
