I am not saying that there is a right way or a wrong way. I think we use a chemical strictly out of habbit.

Pretty controversial question.

But at not so much so as a Ford/Chevy/Dodge/Duesenberg poll.

I vote "no chemicals" and "Deusenberg".

I have been using Camco TST Orange Power for about 5 years. I dump when leaving the campground. Within hours of arriving home I put in the TST and a couple of gallons of water. I have had no issues with odors, "pyramids" or problems with incomplete dumping.

Breaks down waste and tissue
Stops odors up to 7 days
No harmful formaldehyde
Septic tank safe
2 ounces treats a 40 gallon holding tank
100% Biodegradable

Just that there are lots of different answers; which to me usually means that there is no one correct answer. Nonetheless, opinions as to the correct answer can be strongly held.

The only correct answer here is yes, no or occasionally. No controversy. Just a poll to see what everyone is doing.

I guess I'm the only one who doesn't ALWAYS use chemicals. Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. Sometimes I use the orange powder, sometimes I use "Sewer Juice"...

Only ever had a whiff of smell once when I was running the fan and holding the toilet valve open.

I think how you use your rig, now long you stay in one place and how much paper is used would all be part of determining if you use chemicals or not. If I'm only out for a few days, I will fill my black tank with water and dump at the campground, then add a few gallons of water sometimes with soap, for the ride home. Then I dump and flush..in that case I use no chemicals. If I'm in a place for an extended period of time, where I may only dump the black tank every few weeks, then I do use chemicals.

It is interesting to see the "poll" over 82% favor using chemicals..at least part of the time.

I would rather error on the side of caution, than save a few pennies and have an issue down the road. FYI I have not used chemicals in my gray tank, but do follow the same procedures when on the way home, add water and soap and flush well when I arrive home...

Again I have used the GEO method at times, seems to work and makes sense to me.

Nothing in the black but water, but I do put bleach in my kitchen gray tank. I also leave the kitchen gray tank closed until it needs dumping just like the black tank. The bleach keeps prevents odor from the gray tank.
