Black Water Tank level reading

I purchased a 2016 North Point (377RLBH) from a private owner. He told me he emptied the gray and black tanks before I took it home. Both tanks read as empty when checking using the button inside the main control board inside. Once I got it home I noticed it now reads 2/3 full. What could have caused this? Is the sensor bad?

Tank sensors are notoriously inaccurate. Any particle in the tank that sloshed up to the sensor could have gotten stuck there.

I would go dump (and if you have it flush) just to be sure.

We just got her a month ago and are still searching for a truck. So we can't go and dump. Is there any way to try and wash/flush off the insides without having to open the gate valve to see if that's the issue?

There are dump wagons/totes, but you do not want to add water if you are anywhere it might freeze.

Good to have good friends with trucks at a time like this.

A flushing wand down the toilet into the black tank works the best for us. I give it a thorough flush after every outing, and the sensors still work fine.

If you want to empty it before you start traveling, you may have to contact a camping center for a reference to someone that can pump the tanks out. It's not expensive.
Don't obsess to much about the tank sensors. They are almost always unreliable.

I do the same, with good luck. One newbie tip: make sure you have the “ ‘whizzle stick” well down into the toilet pipe when you turn on the flow. Otherwise you’ll be taking a shower after your “shower.”

Never tried a flushing wand but what I would use it one of the 90 degree brass elbows used with water filters; attach it to the end of the house. If you want to keep the house straight just use a pvc or abs pipe. This method will allow you spray the sides of the tank where the sensors reside.
