Blinds - String replacement success

Just wanted to let everyone know that I just replaced a broken string on my blinds. It is real easy to do. The most frustrating part is the figuring out how they mounted the blind and the location of the screws.
Jayco placed three screws through the top of the blind into the valance...done.
A long screwdriver or a long bit holder on a drill works best.
Camping World, Amazon and Walmart have the repair kit on-line at all about the same price ($16.99). Camping World had it in stock for same Day pick-up so went that route.
Of course this happened on the biggest blind (rear window) so the others will be a breeze if it happens again...

That's ok, I crawled under the house today to straighten up the crawl space and remove some junk and stuff I had forgotten was in there.

Were you able to find blind cord that colour matched? I have been having a heck of a time tracking down the right cord to re-string my blinds. Mine are kind of a tan/beige colour.

DW took me to a fabric store. They had multiple colors of string and the needle to pull the string through the holes. Watched YouTube on how to restring them,

Camping World sells a repair kit with tan colored cords and other parts to make the repairs. I'm sure you can find if else where and cheaper but it wad convenient.

Hi, I have the same issue. Did you have to remove the whole valance from the wall or could you remove the shade by itself?

I have been offered the Blind First Aid brand repair kit, which is likely the one you got. It is nowhere near a colour match for my blind cords so my search continues.

I found RecPro online.... They are in Indiana. They have a kit with the string in a beige color but are out of stock. They told me the kit should be in stock this week. I guess I really shouldn't worry about the color because the strings on the shade are concealed on both sides inside the decorative valance assembly. Their # 574-848-0405

I found string I used at hobby lobby. Lots of colors available.

I bought the kit and some dye from sewing shop will dye then try to resting these cheap blinds

I bought a spool of black on amazon for about $12. I think it was 300 feet. Should last for a few years now. They had all colors, do a search for window blind cord.

I’ve bought this kit a couple of times primarily for the tensioning “buttons”. They’re different (better) than the originals supplied by Jayco. The kit seems a bit $$ but is pretty complete. I’ve recently discovered that the individual pieces are available directly from United Shade and I ordered 10 buttons for the spares box. I’ve had one or 2 strings break and 6-8 buttons fail. Thanks to the kit I have plenty of string and springs at the moment (have never had a spring go bad).

Other shade strings are deteriorating also. Can someone please reply if the top valance requires removal, or any of the side fabric surrounding a window? Also,is some sort of needle needed, too?

You can leave the valance up but you need at least a 6” Phillips bit to get to the screws holding the shade to the valance. Not to mention depending on where the shade is you have to bend up into a pretzel. LOL

I agree 100% with the fact that the hardest part is finding / removing the valence screws. That and the fact that when you find them you quickly realize they are square drive (Robertson). The restringing is a piece of cake once you get the blind down.

I bought a bulk roll of string on Amazon for the rest of my blinds as I am sure they will break at some point!!

I just completed re-cording two of my smaller blinds (a cord on each side). Getting them off w/ a longer phillips screwdriver was fairly easy, you just need to do the pretzel twist thing a little. Re-cording them at home was easy. Putting them back up was a pain. Forget trying to find the old holes in the valance wood as it is covered w/ fabric that conceals them when you take them out, let alone it appears Jayco put those blinds in originally from the outside of the window from what i could tell. The screws were on the back side of the blind (window side instead of inside the rig side). Forget that business, I put them back in w/ the screws facing the inside of the rig, with new screw holes. The valance covers that part of the blinds anyway.

Did this on a 2020 Jay Feather, now I have the diagrams on how to restring them. We just have the blackout shades and no night and day ones so it basically went pretty easy. Bought the line at Michaels Hobby store and found out the correct color bought enough to replace others if something goes awry. Interesting part was removing the valance which the blinds are attached to. Googled and some answers were they just pop up on a key like attachment, not true on ours. Two screws with the square drive and an L bracket and the ability to fold into a shape that at least I am not designed for Took about an hour but figure on next one it will go faster.
