Bugs
We are at Fort Myers pine island koa and it rains every day plus it is hot and humid so we have bugs. No See mus they are very small sand fleas that bite.
Very small ticks.
St. Petersburg had no nasty bugs. So we are not going any further south. In two weeks we are going to West Palm Beach. Hope to get away from sand fleas.

It's -5* F outside tonight. All of the bugs are dead outside up here. You're welcome to head this way.

Any where you go in Florida you'll have bugs, sand fleas around water, ticks more so in wooded areas, skeeters just everywhere.
Enjoy,

We just have snow-squitos right now, there bite is painful, but you just have to cover up. Lots of open spaces in many of our State Parks right now.

Minus 27 here no bugs at all, nice and sunny. Beaches have hardly anyone on them. Took the dogs for a walk on the lake.

St. Petersburg was very nice. A wonderful campground. This is a swamp and dirt. Now we know. We always go to California and Texas but due to COVID we went to Florida for an experiment. It was still worth not seeing snow and ice.

One nice thing about low humidity is few to no bugs.
Editorial comment. I was born in California and see no earthly reason to return.

With the news and how things are going there we have decided not to. It is a shame what has happened.hope they get their act together. It is a beautiful state but wrong leadership.

Bugs
Bugs were only one of the many reasons I decided to "snow bird" in Texas rather than Florida. Sorry you had to learn your lesson the hard way, but you're welcome to come back to TX! I think you'll find prices cheaper here, too!

I woke up this morning to 18* outside with a wind chill of 5* and the snow bugs fell from the sky last nite. There were so many they left us in a 10" deep blanket with another 2-5" coming yet today and temps falling to around zero by this evening and wind chills in the double digit negatives.
At least you're "camping". Lol!

Well it is called winter for a reason!
I'll take the bugs any day over yours. And I'm an ex dam yankee to boot. Upstate New York, so I know all about the white bugs.

We went from Fort Myers pine island koa to the Everglades and back today. My car has bugs smashed all over the front of the car. We we got gas I scrubbed the windshield. Then my son called us and it is snowing at home. I am ok with the bugs. No problem.

Gnats and other bugs? That's the price of living here in Paradise. Remember, even The Garden of Eden had a snake!

We are now in west palm beach koa. No no see ups! Thank God. Sitting outside and a perfect night. This is a clean quiet level campground. We don’t mind bugs but fort Myers koa was the worst we ever experienced.
This is the life!

What does leadership have to do with bugs or a bad campground? Florida has some of the best locations in the country.

We've stayed at the Pine Island KOA twice. The first time we had a site along the outside that backed up to the trees so we only had people on the sides and across the road from us. The last time we ended up with an inside site right across from the bathhouse so the site was a lot more congested. I ended up with a medical issue within a week of arriving, so we cut our planned month stay very short. The no-see-ums were an issue when we were there the second time, not so much on our first trip - both of them were in mid-February.
We've decided that we'll stay elsewhere the next time we go to Florida. What campground did you stay at in St. Pete?

Hebgen Lake, Montana - worst bugs ever! Had to tether ourselves to the trailer so the mosquitoes wouldn't carry us away to their dens! Fortunately, every evening a strong cleansing wind blows through and gets rid of all those pesky mosquitoes, and a few untended awnings. Beautiful place, though, near where I grew up. If you're going to Yellowstone, I'd highly recommend Yellowstone Holliday RV Campground.
