Butcher Block Countertop

Thermofoil and water damage is causing me to replace island and bathroom countertops. May be going with butcher block countertops. One concern is the island. The butcher block would weigh approximately 100 lbs. Not sure if the island, as constructed by Jayco, could handle the weight when towing (starts, stops, bad road). Any thoughts?

I would think it would easily handle the 100Lbs.... The weight would be displaced over 30+j SQ. feet or so... When you think Jayco offers a water purifier system weighing half as much and displaced over a 16th of space, you should have no problems adding your butcher block.. Go for it... Where are your gong to find a large slap of butter block???

Home Depot has solid wood butcher block in stock in League City, TX. It’s unfinished. Will be using Waterlox for sealing, etc.

I prefer the butcherblock look over any other however I would not affix a 100lb countertop on the flimsy Jayco installed island in my unit if I were towing.
I’m strongly considering replacing my kitchen & bath countertops with Corian.
Please post pics of your project!

The island counter top will weigh less than 100 lbs after the hole is cut for the sink. Using a Waterlox sealer and finish threecoatsofeach. Right now, I’m rocking a rustic

I saw the Butter Block sheets at our local HomeDepot. One nice chunk of wood. You have me thinking of following your lead. Waiting to see your final results.

When you calculated weight, are you subtracting the weight of the old top?

HomeDepot also has the smaller butcher block sheets that can be used for a fold up extender on one end of the counter.. Thats something i'll probably do as well

Old top totally removed so no weight to factor. New butcher block will no doubt be heavier but should not be an issue. My weight calculation came from “the internet” for butcher block weight per sqft. Just a wag.

According to Homedepot web site, the butcher block counter top is 65lbs. Your old countertop is going to be about 25-30 lbs. So you are only adding about 50 additional lbs, probably closer to 40 when you consider the removed material for the sink. Not quite as bad as we originally thought.
