Buying used from dealer

Hey folks, I’m looking at getting a used 2021 Jayco 12SRK from a local dealer. I called to inquire about it and they told me it was a trade in that was originally purchased from them and the original owner wanted something bigger. It is apparently mint condition and priced $4000 less than a new 2021 model. My main concern is that it doesn’t come with Jayco warranty since it isn’t transferable. My question and I know it’s a broad one…what do you think I should do?
I’m still waiting to hear back about any in house warranty included.
PS I am in Canada

Before you do anything get it inspected by a qualified inspector. Find out what the “As Is” condition is.

Congratulations on your selection. Hopefully you and your family will enjoy it for many years. EA37TS suggestion to have it inspected is indeed the safest way to purchase.

Here is a link to find the nearest certified inspector: https://nrvia.org/locate/
I suggest the first question you ask is when someone could stop by to perform the inspection. If it's a month or two, your dealer may not want hold it that long.... in that case, I suggest you first look it over carefully for water damage... spongy floors/walls, water stains... that's the biggest worry.

Check the tire dates... numbers within a circle after "DOT" on the sidewalls... (2717 = 27th week of 2017) - generally you want to replace tires that are 4-5 years old... tread depth doesn't matter... check for cracks in the rubber... that kinda stuff. Other than that, you are good to go. You can see that NADA Guides says about the price but a good used RV is hard to find cheap.

If you want to do a thorough inspection yourself, here's a PDI to use:

It may also depend on how “handy” you are?
Most RV’s coming out of production these days still require some “special attention” right out of the factory and it’s a huge plus in RV ownership to have handyman skills. If you’re not comfortable with that then not having the 2 year warranty would be a ‘no-go’
Good luck - having a qualified inspector that has your best interest is a great idea!

Thanks for the great responses.
UPDATE:
I managed to talk to the sales manager and he said he would include in the sale price a 4 year Jayco approved warranty that covers everything the Jayco warranty covers and can be serviced at any authorized Jayco dealer.

I'd look that warranty over very closely. I tried to get a different jayco dealer to handle my original 2 year factory warranty work, they told me "If you didn't buy it here we won't do warranty work on it." Guessing it's because of the state of the RV industry currently.
Call around, ask other dealers about doing warranty work from a RV not purchased there. If you intend on having your selling dealer doing all your warranty work probably not an issue.

Must be one of those extended warranties.

Most dealers will only work on a camper that was purchased from them. So. I would ask to see the service records. If there are none, you may still have a few bugs that need to be worked out. If it was in a few times, most may issues may have been worked out.

Lastly, do your research on the dealer. Most dealers will say anything to sell the unit. When it comes to service many are lacking, and have a bad reputation.

Giving you 4 years and not just the standard 2 years is sending me the red flag. Find out everything that’s going to be covered for 4 years and be knit picky about it. No verbal, have it all in writing.

I definitely will get everything in writing. The dealer originally said the warranty couldn’t be transferred and I’d have to purchase an extended warranty. I told him I wasn’t comfortable without a warranty and he called me back saying that they’d included an warranty for the price.

It sounds like a good dealer. Congratulations.

Don't worry too much about problems, along with your dealer we're also a resource for help if you need it.
When do you pick it up?

The dealer has great reviews and I while I maybe naive in thinking so, he sounded nice over the phone. He told me the history of it and says he has all the paperwork. He promised everything in writing too. I’m going to look at it on Saturday and if everything looks good, I’ll sign the papers.

On the 4 year warranty dealer may have added a extended warranty in on the price. Read the fine print. It has been done before. There was one were the guy had to bring it back to that dealer for warranty work.

Make sure it’s a nation wide extended warranty that will be recognized and cover you on the road and not a “in house” warranty. Get name of it and check them out.

Maybe try to get the previous owners name. I found the previous owners name and number in my used 31 UL and called home to ask if he had any issues.

One more thought. Check for any recalls that may be on that unit and if so have they been taken care of.

Two can play that game. The title may be still in the original buyers name. If so it will be on the title or a copy when you get it. Ask for a copy of the title to verify it is clear title. We bought our used Grayhawk 31DS dealer gave us previous owners name before we bought. It was on the title also.

Do a thorough PDI with the dealer before you sign anything, just to make sure you know where everything is, how it works, and works properly. If there's any issues, have them taken care of in advance of sealing the deal.
