Camper Totaled

This October our trailer was side swiped by an 18 wheeler and was totaled. We gave up on rving. We missed the RV very much then we looked at a trailer at Fort Wilderness That was rented. Wow that got us back at rving. For $98.00 per nite we will stay in a 33" Jayco trailer all set up. We get sheets , towels , coffee maker and more. The AC is on waiting for us. We just need food and clothing.
We will be saving money and time. We now can do 70mph and less stops for gas. We don't maintenance the trailer. Keep it in the back yard. We are spoiled.
In 2003 we are renting two weeks in October for Halloween then two weeks in November and last one month in 2004. This includes a golf cart for $25.00 a day waiting for us at the trailer we rented. Disney charged us $75.00 per day. We are back in a Jayco trailer. We owned a 17' hybrid and rent a 33' trailer.

We paid $3000 for our campsite 36 years ago. 11 acres of the most beautiful mountainside you will ever see. Amortized, that's $83 a year. Taxes are $500 a year, electric $24 a month. So for a total of $871 a year we are in heaven.

We usually camp on weekends. Total days probably 30 days a year. So, the cost per day is about $29.

But the true economics is that our 3 grand investment is now worth about 60 grand, which means that we have quadrupled our investment many times over and have been camping all these years for free.

Not for everybody, for sure. But then again we can target shoot to our heart's content, we have no neighbors to bother us with noisy kids and gennys and the quiet is deafening.

Best investment we ever made.

Welcome to our new world. Like you now we just throw a couple of bags in the car and go. No setup, no more maintenance. We love it. We had a blast for 37 years of camping, but this is the way to go.

When we sold our trailer in April we thought that was the end of it. We did all AirNB rentals and twice we ended up in rented permanent trailers on private land over the summer. One of them was on a park model in south central WI on a bison farm. This was our view. Absolutely amazing place and we had it to ourselves.

Sounds great. Where do you look to find these rentals? Thanks

Insurance

Glad you found a way to return to what you love.
We are boondockers...never any hookups..., and we go every weekend from Memorial Day to late September, and that precludes a rental in a park such as yours.

I don't think I saw any mention of insurance recovery on your RV. How did that go? Were you upside down...owing more than the insurance would pay? Or did you come out financially whole?

We have a rig we bought new in 2019...a 2020 model. I have a strong feeling we'll be upside down on this for at least a little while longer. 12 year (or longer) financing has this hidden risk of having the rig totaled while you still owe more than it's worth...especially during the first few years.

How was your experience with insurance? Did you get an attorney and sue the trucking company to make you whole...and cover attorney's fees and court costs?
