Campground Max RV Lengths

Newbie question, sorry -

In general, when a campground lists the "maximum allowable RV length" does this mean that for TT's it's the combined length of the TV and TT connected?

Our new Hummingbird is listed as 17', but from spare tire on the rear bumper to tip of tongue measures approximately 20'-9".

Thanks.

I would say approximate TT length at MOST campgrounds. I have heard of CG's that MEAN 20' total length when they say 20', but that's not the kind of CG we tend to camp at (i.e. ones with no space). It most certainly does not include the length of the TV.

I always put my X19H at 20' even though it is a almost a foot longer, actually probably about 4' longer with the bunks down. For your Hummingbird I would probably call it a 20' unit.

Always ask for a longer site. Never tell a CG your camper is 17 or 20 ft. long. They'll stick you in a site that you'll barely fit into. In your case, tell them 25 ft. My TT measures 32' 10" long at the box. But 36' 9" from tongue to bumper. I always ask for a 40ft. site.

Great call on what length you ask for, never thought about that.

Thanks all!

My trailer is 28 feet of "Living Space" but 34 feet bumper to hitch. I always provide the longer measurement when booking a campsite.

My current fifth is 35', my old one was 33'. At private campgrounds I tell them 35", at state and national park campgrounds I tell them 30'. Reason being that private campgrounds pack them in like sardines and longer length may be needed. State and National Parks usually use lower allowable lengths. I have more sites available using 30' in those campgrounds and have never had an issue fitting.
