Check out Outlanders River Camp in Luray - right on the river with great access for swimming/wading/fishing/tubing.

Douthat State Park is awesome as well.

Sherando Lake is gorgeous, though technically a little east of the valley in Albemarle County.

There are too many to mention here. Lots of state park and national forest camp grounds, private parks and many lakes and reservoirs. I'm located in central VA and very familiar with the area, so let me know if you have any specific questions. Have fun!

We did Jellystone Luray which was nice and had easy access to the caverns and Sky Line drive park.

Down side was all the black biting flies. I have never seen so many flies in all my life. Possibly seasonal, but they were thick.

We stayed at Shenandoah Valley Campground in 2016 (Shenandoah Valley Campground Staunton/Verona I-81 Exit 227 - Verona, VA 24482 - 540-248-CAMP - 800-310-2580) & loved it. Just be aware they have bunnies, lots and lots of bunnies running around. Some of the sites are tight for the bigger units.

It is a nice place. We were there last October, no fly issues. Maybe it was time of year.

They had torn down the water zone and in the process of building a new one that was to opened this year.

If you are a fan of Dukes of Hazzard … Cooter's Place very close. Ben is from the Shenandoah area, moved it from Sperryville to Luray several + years ago.

We stayed there early this Spring. Nice campground, friendly staff.
