Camping near Minneapolis
Can anyone make any suggestions as to where to camp near Minneapolis. We are heading south from Canada and thought we would give Minne a couple of days before we continue on. Suggestions would be appreciated.
thanks

Check out Lebanon Hills Dakota County Park in Apple Valley. Full Hook-ups and can be reserved on line it is South of Minnie about 20 miles. There is also a KOA further North and East of town IIRC. We really like Lebanon Hills, close to shopping and resturants.

I haven’t been here myself, but have heard good things about Bunker Hills Campground in Coon Rapids. They have a nice website that you can check availability at.

We stayed at Carver Park over Labor Day - very nice campground, highly recommended! See the following link for other potential places:

I just booked Lebanon Hills for 3 nights in July. Very reasonable price ($30 night with full hookups ) and I booked online. Close to Mall of America and very roomy sites (google earth is great).

I second the vote for either Lebanon Hills or Bunker Hills. Nice outdoor water park next to Bunker Hills if you have kids

Afton State Park is on the SE corner of the Twin Cities. A great setting on the St. Croix River bluffs and near Stilwater, an old logging town with great food and old stuff.

Afton ST only has tent camping.
There is a ton of great CGs in and around the Twin Cities.

There are a couple casino's in the area that have FHU spots. I have stayed at Treasure Island Casino near Lake City MN a few times. The spots near the front of the park are grass, otherwise, the rest are just a part of a large parking lot. VERY CHEEP, I want to say less than $25 a night. The other, is a relitivly large casino closer to minneapolis but I cant remember the name. My sister and BIL stayed there a couple years ago and really liked it. It even has a RV wash station.

Have stayed at Town & Country in Savage MN and it was nice. This summer, we are going to try St Paul East RV. It has good reviews and its on the way back home from the Dells!

Plowtoy, I think you maybe thinking of Dakota Meadows RV Park which is part of Mystic Lake Casino located in Prior Lake. They are semi close sites with side by side hookups on a large cement pad. It is a very clean and updated park plus they have free shuttle to and from the casino from your site. We stayed there 3 years in a row for 4th of July. We usually had 4-6 campers in our group. They had an amazing show that can be viewed from the campground. Hope that helps.

I might also suggest St Croix Bluffs Regional Park. It is located by Afton Alps (south of Minneapolis about 30 minutes). They have pull through sites and some of them are full hook ups if you need/want them.
Washington County, MN - Official Website - St. Croix Bluffs Regional Park
We go to this location once or twice a year. It is located on the St. Croix River which divides Minnesota and Wisconsin. Very nice park and inexpensive. They charge about $30.00 a night.
We also go to Rice Creek Chain of Lake located North of Minneapolis about 25 minutes.
https://www.anokacounty.us/967/Camping
We go here two or three times a year and it is also inexpensive at $30.00 a night. Many more site and they also offer pull through or back in sites. Some sites are full hook ups and most are water/electric.
Let me know when you are coming and where you are staying. I would love to meet a JOF member in person.

I'm not sure about a park on the West side of the lake, but Baker Park is on the SE side of Lake Independence and part of the 3-Rivers Park District mentioned in the post about Carver Park.
For the OP, do you have a particular focus for what you want to do with your time in the area? If you're looking to camp but then head into downtown Minneapolis on a weekday (The MIA, Walker, and Sculpture Gardens are free, the Mill City Museum is surprisingly interesting, the Twins stink but it's a nice stadium to watch a game) I think Baker is about the most convenient. If you'll have at least 2 people in your vehicle you can take the HOV lane most of the way in.
If you were looking at spending time at the Mall of America or in Saint Paul the places to the South or East side of the Cities might make more sense.

Willow River State Park about 5 miles inside Wisconsin, quick drive to St Paul, Minneapolis and the dreaded Mega Mall. We are there during week before Memorial weekend. Don't know how many times I've camped there over the years. Best sites are in the 300 camping area (100 and 200 are new and few trees etc).
