For whatever fan you decide to purchase, if the features listed below are available and you can afford them, I recommend buying one with these features:
  1. Variable or multi-speed
  2. Reversible (intake or exhaust)
  3. Thermostatic control

We find having a thermostat quite useful as it shuts the fan off once the inside is cool enough and starts the fan again when it gets warm.

Probably not the quality or volume of air of a fantastic fan but it moves a lot of air.

I assume this fits all campers? I like this option so I don't need to mess with the roof.

I have been researching upgrading my rear vents to something with more power but not the full fantastic version due to really not needing three. These seem to fit the bill for me due to having Ventline hatches with power run to each one already. I am not comfortable ripping my seals up for these fans so I am going to go with one of these models listed below. Heng's is the manufacturer (or importer) of these. Crabman listed one above which is Vortex I, I believe. Model numbers, features and compatibility are listed below from the catalog. Amazon has some as does Evilbay.

I tried to have it built with upgraded fans in all locations but they would not do it.

VORTEX DELUXE ROOF VENTS
• Vortex I Fan: Single speed. 9” blade.
Complete vent.
• Vortex II Fan: Three speed forward, two
reverse. 9” blade. Complete vent.
• Vortex III Fan: Single speed. 12” blade.
Complete vent.
• Vortex IV Fan: Three speed forward, one
reverse. 12” blade. Complete Vent
• Universal Retrofit, quiet, and powerful.
• High velocity air fan system - over 300% more
air flow movement.
• Easy, quick, and simple installation with only
a phillips head screw driver.
• Easily replaceable without compromising the
rooftop seal.
• Works with with Ventline, Jensen and Elixir
powered U.S. vents.
• Self centering metal base with radius corners
• Non-powered vents can be converted with
some additional wiring.
• Vortex Fan Speed: 188 CFM (188 Cubic Feet
Per Minute).

* Vent numbers listed are without garnish. Garnish sold separately.

I think 3`senough has it covered. When I was looking at these fans the only one available was the single speed, even though info was out there about the other ones. I`m sure you get what you pay for with this stuff, but this fan fit the bill for my needs. So far so good.

• Works with with Ventline, Jensen and Elixir
powered U.S. vents.

Crabman, is this fan louder or about the same as what you replaced?

It is louder, but I suppose that is to be expected with 300% more air movement then the little weak stock fan.

One more question. The crank on my existing fan (to raise the vent cover) is in a corner on my existing fan but on the replacement fan it's centered on one of the sides. Everything I read says the Vortex fan is a replacement and can be installed in minutes. Does the location of the crank matter?

If I recall correctly there is an adapter that comes with the fan to make it work on different crank locations. It will work on the vents listed in the description, which covers most of them.
