Car fire

On the trip back from the races we noticed a lot of smoke on the side of the interstate. It appeared from the distance to be a large truck so I like others moved over 1-2 lanes before we got closer. It ended up being a car on fire that was being towed by what looked like an "older" motor home. I sat older may have been early 20's maybe really late 90's. The front of the car under the hood was on fire amd I felt bad for the older gentleman. Not much I could have done to help and if they had a fire extinguisher in the camper it was too late for that.
What would cause a car being in tow to catch fire like that? The flames where comin out between the hood and windshield, front grill an front wheel wells

Depending on what braking system, if any, he was using could have been a short.

Ah ok. Unfortunately the flames where to a point the car couldn't be un hooked either so I hope the fire dept got out there quick enough that the heat didn't affect the lamination on the rear of the motor home. He was a good bit between exits.

Terrible. There are so many things that can start on fire under the hood. May have had nothing to do with being towed .

Looked like a camper jamboree headed to Fl on Sat. but that was, thank the good Lord, the only incident we saw goin down and back. Saw some Ontario tags headed back north. Too long a drive for me in just a vehicle let alone draggin a 5th wheel. God bless them for having the ability an patience
