I put 2 sets of Pioneer 6.5 3-ways in my unit. A huge improvement. They were the $25.00 set as this is my camper and I am not cranking it up. No amp, just the speakers. The down side is that they are black now and not white. But who cares the unit has a lot of black in it anyway.

Thanks 3'senough. The black grill covers is what's prevented me from already upgrading. Maybe I'll try a set and just paint the grills.
This is exactly what I am going to try. I just put a new set in our camper I had a hell of a time trying to get the existing grilles to fit again. I think I am going to paint the grilles white and see how they look.
If you want white grill covers. Check out marine speakers, the majority of them I have ever seen have been white. They'll cost a bit more than car speakers but they'll probably look better than painting the grills yourself.
That's what Im figuring on doing. Camper is kept at our seasonal site, which is also 2 1/2 hours away from home so my next trip I will check just to make sure.
Have you tried to take the actual speakers out of the black grill ones and put a white grill on them? Remember if you try to paint them then the paint might get on the cone and ruin the sound as it will muffle it somewhat.
If I went the route of painting the grills, I would definitely pull them off the speaker cone before doing so. Most of the time the covers just snap over the speaker.
Quick FYI, I have painted many speaker grills in the past (mostly in wall home theater setups). Use many light coats of spray paint, they turn out great.
