Central Vac Install on a 351 RLTS
I am considering buying the Dirt Devil CV 950 to install into our camper this weekend and was wondering if anyone else has done their own, and if so how did it go? Does it work like they say it does? Where did you install the pump and the hose connector? Any advise would be great.
Thanks,
Mike:hihi:

I just bring a cheap $60 vacleaner from Walleyworld. It's small and light and with 6 kids a wife that's a neat freak, and my obsession with taking care of my camper, we get our moneys worth out of it.

I just installed the Dirt Devil central vac in our 31.5RLTS fifth wheel and the wife really loves it. The power is surprising considering the size of the unit. I mounted mine behind the wall in the basement where all the ducting and wiring is. I put the hose outlet in the riser of the middle step going to the bedroom. Pretty easy actually. used a hole saw and cable grommet and plugged in the power in the basement electrical outlet. If there is any complaint at all, the wife says the hose is a bit on the heavy side but she much rather have it like it is than no central vac at all.
Just make sure you know what is on the other side of what ever wall you cut for the hose passage and such.

Panhead, would you mind sending me a picture of your install? Also, you said you mounted it behind the wall? If so, how much time does it take to get into it and change the bag? I too was thinking about mounting it in the stair riser. I will be doing this tomorrow. Do you remember what size hole you haad to drill for the hose so I ccan make sure I have that size with me?
Thanks a bunch,
Mike

Mike, did you get your vac installed yet? I have my trailer out and if you like I can take some pix and post them. As far as getting into the unit to change the bag, it would only take me a minute or two, I have the panel that covers that compartment on only with velcro. The biggest part of changing the bag would be to clear the storage items out of the way of the access panel.

I know this is some what of an question open to many answers but on the average, how often do you have to change the bag on the built in units?
I know the first answer, When they are full!

Our Vacuum is mounted up high near the bathroom floor so it is easy to get to without moving much stuff.
We ususally change the bag with normal use about every couple of months.

Mike,
Here are some pix of my install, some of it isn't pretty but when the access panel in on you cant see the ugly part.
This is the access panel I refer to:
This is the area behind the basement wall where the unit is installed, the cover is attached with velcro so with a gentle tug it is off once the stuff in the basement is move away from in front of the panel

Ok got her all installed in the 3rd step of our camper this past weekend. Needed longer screws since it was mounting onto a carpetted area. Mounted the main unit inside the basement by the landing area of the inside steps. Take out the 3 screws holding the basement wall on to access the unit for bag changes. Thought all was well, open the flap and the unit turned right on. GREAT!!! Button everything all up, go inside to use it and NO suction what so ever. WHAT???????????????? Go back outside open it all up to find the bag sucked itself to the inlet of the vacuum, fixed that a Holy smokes it really SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!! Love it is all I can say.
