Check valve replacement

My problem with the hot water flow, which completely stopped flowing at times, started the day after I changed the whole house filter. I'm thinking some crud went through the system after I changed the filter and interfered with the check valve. I'll see what's up when I pull the original valve.

Cheers

Just an update. The original plastic check valve had lost it's spring and plastic retainer. I'm adding photos of the new brass and plastic replacement check valves for comparison. Both have plastic internals but the brass has beefier plastic internals and spring. We have the aluminum tank and I chose to go with the brass check valve and Teflon tape. Hopefully no problems with galvanic corrosion.

You should be just fine with the brass valve. I have one in our TT for a spare when our plastic one fails. The brass/aluminum galvanic compatibility is way down the scale, so you will be good with it. Many members have done the same switch.
