Cleaning underside of awning and slide toppers

Help! Has anybody got ideas on how to clean the mold and mildew from under the slide toppers( I have three), and the awning. They are all white underneath! I heard something about spraying them with a bleach mixture, then rolling them back up and wait to rinse. Is this correct?

Just did the awning on the weekend. Used a garden sprayer to apply a solution of water, bleach and degreaser, rolled it up and left it overnight. It didn't do much. So I reapplied the solution, used an extension pole and the brush and washed the top first from the roof of the 5er and then the underside. I had to use magic erasers on the harder spots while on a step ladder. As I retracted the awning I got the top side from the step ladder. Now it is clean except for some small non mold stains from pine needles.

If you add some DAWN dish detergent it works even better.

On my previous TT I used the Mr Clean Magic eraser pads and it would clean easily and quickly the dirt and mold on the awning!

I used Dawn and Awesome mixed together and a rv wash brush on a pole to do mine today and it came out... well Awesome. I was going to do the bleach/spray on trick, but no sprayer in the camper.

Cleaning slide toppers

Thanks everybody, those are great ideas! Never thought of magic erasers. This is our third rv and there is always something to do maintaining.

I had the same question with some research I found out that my Jayco had a Carefree manufactured awning. There manual states that luke warm water and soap is all that is needed to clean the awning. They advise against harsh chemicals. My awning is 2010 and later.

Same with me. Don't leave it rolled up to long, believe it dries out and don't do the job them. Good Luck

Just a heads up. I know Bleach will make a vinyl awning look like brand new, but it also damages the stitching and the vinyl. What looks good today can fall apart tomorrow. I Never use any cleaner that contains bleach on my awning. A little elbow grease is all it takes once it is clean i use 303 protectant on top and bottom to protect it.

A&E says use a 1/4 cup of bleach, 1/4 cup dish washing liquid in 5 gals of water.

Grumpy, you are right actually. At the dealership, A&E gives a list of preffered cleaners from industrial cleaning agent suppliers (like auto magic), who has a product called RV awning cleaner. (So does Camco). They contain a certain amount of bleach.

Using one of the cheap "swiffer" floor cleaner, the one that is just the pad with a pole, with a normal size dish towel. In the fall when the dew is heavy, before it's rolled up just run it over both sides it removes most of the moisture and cleans at the same time.

I use an Oxy clean type clean mixed in hot water and a scrub brush. It works great. I'm going to try some sort of brush on a pole. I like the idea of a swiffer type with a towel on the end.
