Close call on "not so custom".. door

I ordered a custom sized bi-fold door (from a local specialty wood place) for our master bedroom in the trailer. It was ordered to be 26x80, as the opening is 26.5 x 81.5. I wanted it to be a nice tight fit, so I confirmed with the order desk that they could order it to exact size.
I was about to start staining it this morning.. (the point of no return)
when I had one of those intuitive nudges.. hmm.. maybe lets go check and see exactly how it is going to sit in the opening. So I carried it in and positioned it in the doorway only to find that it was a bit too narrow and way too short!
I pulled out the tape measure and checked it.. 25.5 x 78.25 ???? :error:

I never fails to amaze me at how these things happen! Who is the person in the manufacturing plant who gets an order for a door "custom sized" to be 26x80 and says "I know I'll make it 25.5 x 78.25". :lizard:

The only positive thing.. is that I did not start staining it.. as I would have had a much harder time taking it back to them.
My husband looked at the bill and it says "custom door 26x80".. but then it also says "No returns on special orders", so it will be interesting to see how this plays out. Hopefully they take responsibility for this and order us the proper size...

There's a difference when ordering doors and windows. They probaly sized it for a frame and not "exact" I had to order replacement windows listed as "exact" since the mills are making things according to the frame. I wanted an 1/8" total where they were allowing for 1/4 on all sides. Might be a tough sell depending on the vendor.

Yes I think that must be what happened.. even though the wood store ordered it at a custom size.. someone in the manufacturing department was thinking that my measurements were the rough opening.
In the time since I posted this, I actually figured out how to solve the problem without returning the door. I am going to attach a one inch wood header to the ceiling above the door. I will paint it white so it will blend in with the ceiling. It seems like a simple fix that will allow me to have the door now, rather than waiting all summer for them to manufacture a new one, and not be able to use it this year.

They have to accept that back.. or it is FRAUD... would be different if you decided you did not like it and wanted to return it... but this does not meet your indicated measurements.. so they should make it right... besides this is not really a return.. its THEIR ERROR.. now if you said you just wanted your $ back they could refuse that... but they have to give U what you paid for
