I still have mine that I bought in 1970. One modification I did was to attach a CO2 cartridge so I don't have to thumb pump pressure. Seals do dry out and need to be replaced. The instant pressurization is great. The only problem is finding the correct size of CO2 cartridges now. I last used it when tent camping in 2010 because we use the RV stove inside now since 2017.

Great restoration job. I about choked up seeing these pics. I remember the first trip when Dad let me pump the tank and light the burner with a "kitchen" match that I probably struck on my pants zipper. With 3 older brothers, this was a very coveted task and my stature (as a 6 year old) was immediately elevated. Of course, the next meal he let one of the other dorks do it, but he did put me into the rotation from that point onward. I love to camp today because of the wonderful memories and the values instilled in me on our many camping trips, both with family and with Scouts - Dad was our Scoutmaster for years. Thanks for the memories (in my best Bob Hope voice).

I had a Coleman stove I used in the field in Germany back in the 80s. Later (early 2000s) I upgraded to the dual-fuel stove and donated my white gas-only one to the guys in my unit. I used it many years with my two older kids in the Cub and Boy Scouts. When my youngest came alone a number of years later, the Scouts had decreed that only propane stoves would be allowed so I got a propane adapter from Walmart. Works fine so now I have a tri-fuel stove. One thing, I had a Coleman collapsible stove stand which I kept. When I tried to use it with the dual-fuel stove, I discovered that the slots in the bottom where the stand fit were not there. I guess they deleted that feature somewhere along the way. I still have the stand somewhere in the shed out back.

My Dad had one he bought a long time ago. Maybe before I was born, I don't know and I can't ask him anymore as he passed away last December. Anyway, He gave it to me several years ago, and my family and I have used it and used it hard for the past 8 years or so while we were camping in tents and in the pop up. I had to replace the tank as the original one was fairly well rusted inside. I was able to order a replacement from Coleman, and when I got it and had the stove operational again, I told my Dad. He asked what I paid for the tank and I told him it was about $45 with shipping. He laughed and said that's a little more than what he paid for the entire stove when he bought it. Since we got the hybrid and I bought a Blackstone tailgater, I gave the Coleman to my grandson. He loves camping and he can put it to good use. He also respects the fact this is a family heirloom and will cherish it for many more years.

I bought two of these about 20 years ago, along with two of the gas lanterns from Coleman, I prefer the white gas over the propane any day, I still use them every camping trip, the white gas lasts so much longer than propane. These are a favorite piece of my camping equipment and I will always cherish them. I learned the greatness of these stoves and lanterns from my dad. The lanterns provide bright light, or I can turn them down really low and I usually have them burning from dusk till midnight or later.

Went out to the garage to find ours and did. 20 years later looks new but not sure if it still works. Missing the caps to turn it on with. Otherwise used during our camping days and to heat baby bottles. Wow. That was a long time ago.

X2 on the white gas over propane. 3/4 of a tank of white gas will last 2 weeks easily and thats cooking twice a day. I really don't like those little disposable propane canisters because a lot of them end up floating in lakes or in the ditch beside the road and that's not a barb to anyone here.

Love the old Coleman stoves!

Not a Coleman stove but along the same line.

Picked up a vintage Weber kettle grill from 1977. Got it for FREE [emoji3]

Old Coleman stoves and lanterns are collected by many people. Sort of like cabbage patch dolls. Had a friend who specialized lanterns and got to over 100 before he decided they were taking up too much space in his garage and basement. Sorry to say that the other truth is that the value on Coleman devices is pretty stagnant I think largely due to their durability and the millions of them that have been sold. They tend not to die, just get hidden behind a pile of junk in the barn.

I only used some “0000” steel wool and some degreaser (super clean, purple power, etc) and some elbow grease. I didn’t do any painting as the finish is baked on enamel. I did buy new grates from Ace hardware.

Nice job Tom, it's amazing how stuff can be redone to look new again instead of finding a landfill. Next week I'm going to start on my old Coleman lantern.

I don't post about Coleman stuff here often, but I am the owner and Administrator of the Coleman Collectors Forum. Also a member of the International Coleman Collectors Club. Old Coleman items are very durable.

I enjoy bringing old Coleman items, not only back to life, but also full restorations.
