Comfy Camp Chair Recommendations
It is time for a new set of camp chairs. Would love to hear your thoughts on comfort vs weight vs portability. Thanks in advance for your inputs.

We bought a pair of these GCI chairs a few years ago, and have been happy with them. They sit a little higher so it's easier for the DW to get out of. They've upgraded them now, so they come with a folding foot stool also.

They weigh about 15 pounds, and are much lighter and easier to store than the zero G folding chairs we gave away to in-laws.

We have some very comfortable LL Bean chairs, but they are heavy and bulky. We replaced them with GCI Outdoor Roadtrip Rockers. They are much easier to handle and store, plus they're very comfortable.

Thanks guys! Both of these options feature some very cool engineering design and look really comfortable. I am curious to know how the rockers are holding up... LukeDagny, how long have y'all had them?

We've had them for two seasons with no signs of giving up. We even had the chance to use them in cold, but not freezing weather, and the gas cylinders were not effected.

We have 4 of these cheap Coleman camp chairs.

They have held up well over several years of heavy use. However, I wouldn't call them comfortable. Durable and tolerable maybe. But, not comfortable.

Midnightmoon, these are the exact chairs we used for years and now as we age and move into more serious rv'ing, we are ready to indulge ourselves with more comfort. Thanks to all for your inputs.

I'm glad that I'm not the only one that doesn't find them the most comfortable. I keep saying that I'm going to do like you and buy something more comfortable but I never seem to get around to it.

I think for pure comfort, zero G chairs are the best. My definition of comfort puts a high value on the ability to lean back and take an afternoon nap. None of the chairs recommended have a head rest to allow napping. They do have the ability to lean back and watch the world go by. The down side to zero G chairs is they're heavy and take up a lot of space.
During the camping season when were not traveling, we keep our camper at a campground near our home. This semi permanent location allows us to keep a small Rubbermaid shed. In the shed we keep our lawn mower and a bunch of chairs, including some very comfortable LL Bean zero G recliners. When we go over to the campground, I find myself getting our GCI rockers out of storage, instead of my zero G recliners out of the shed.
A few years ago, I picked up a folding rocker at Gander Mountain. It was comfortable and fairly light, for about $49. Unfortunately, Gander Mountain moved away. It looked similar to this;

We got a pair of these and they are the bomb. Fold up nicely and can stand up even when folded.

We've had these for a couple of years now. The rigid arm rests make it easier to get out for us. They are a bit heavy, but are very well built.

I've yet to hear anybody who's had them complain about the GCI Outdoor Rockers (available from Dick's). I've sat in them on occasion and have found them to be extremely comfortable.
Both the wife and I agree that, at this point in our life, we deserve to spend the $80 or so on each chair. They're on order, so we'll know soon enough if it was money well spent.

If our experience is any indication, you’ll enjoy those CGI chairs. We take both the Zero G and CGI rockers with us. Use the zero g chairs at the campsite and take the others to our daughters softball tournament games!

I'm not sure of the brand but we got a couple of the rocker style chairs that have shock absorbers for the rocking mechanism. We found them at Academy. We've found them to be very comfortable.

We got two of these Zero Gravity chairs...and they were nice to sit in for about four months...bought them in late May this year and by September, one had the plastic piece where the bolt for the legs/arm attach bust, the other had the grommets pulling out of the seat...and we are only 140 lbs and 210 lbs so not close to the 400 lb weight limit...
locking mechanism is flimsy and stripped on one side and the trays are ok, but the way they mount to the chair is not stable with heavier objects...would not recommend this brand...

We have a pair of these Coleman chairs without the side table for going on 15 years now. They are aluminum so not heavy, very easy to set up and very easy to get in and out of.

Looked quite a while for comfy camp chairs till one day I Googled "big a$$ camping chairs" & found these at Kotulas, but they're the same as these ones at northern. They are great, & the most comfortable chair ive had so far. DW loves 'em, & there's plenty of room for my 6'4", 255lb frame! They're made by Portal, & called portal oversize camp chair.
