Cook stove vent

We have a 2015 Jayflight 34 RSBS. For some reason we cannot get the outside vent to open. We see the two latches but cannot get them to release. We have had a few differnt people try also. Could someone tell me how to open the vent? Thanks.

Mine are tight, extremely tight. They've gotten better. But I'm here to tell you, when I mean they are tight, they are knuckle busting, finger skinning tight. Ok, you get my drift. What I do is kind of push up and away from the RV. Again, this takes some force, there is much flexing that needs to take place before they release. Hope this helps.

These vents are a common frustration. Below is what I posted not too long ago:

The tech warned me about these, but I didn't try it until I got the trailer home.

Note that those tabs are on the moveable part of the vent, so they do move outward a very slight amount when they release.

I push the tabs (virtually) straight UP with my thumbs, both at the same time. Trying one at a time does not work for me. They feel like they are a friction fit to keep the vent closed.

On mine, when they release, there is no sound associated with the latches releasing; the vent just moves a bit outward.

Hope that made sense and helps.

Mine open fairly easily, in the same fashion oldmanAZ described - push upward and outward at the same time.

Either way, they're tight. I can't do both of mine at the same time. I have to use both thumbs on each. They're getting loser though. Don't use inside stove to often.

If you think unlatching them is tough, wait until you have to latch them closed. Ooi!

Speaking of latching. Are you supposed to latch them in tow? I always have just wondering if you have to.

I wonder, too. I haven't been latching them... because I keep forgetting to.

I never latch mine on my fiver and have never lost one. Too much trouble latching and unlatching for me. And I've been pulling RV's for over 30 years.

I was just talking with a tech a few days ago when I picked up my new trailer. He went over opening and closing those vents. He told me that it really isn't a big deal if you leave them open. He said his biggest concern with doing so is that it may allow bugs to enter more easily.

Cook stove vent

I don't leave mine unlatched due to the location, it's on the back and sucks up all sort of dust when we go down gravel stretches.

The exhaust door on my TT was tighter than Dick's hatband. I couldn't get it open without some "persuading". So I decided to put my own latch on it, no problems.

On my 19RD one catch is tougher than the other.

We use the easy one to keep the door from flapping during transit.

+1; I never latch mine back any more. And yes, it's quite difficult to get unlatched. Once you get the hang of it and figure out how it's supposed to work it gets a little easier (but just a little).

The only problem I've ever had is that it's one of only 2 vents in my trailer (the other is above bathroom). So on windy days or if there's a change in air pressure in the unit, it can sometimes be heard flapping about. On occasion it has gotten annoying enough for me to latch it back, but it's rare.

If I were in a MH, I would latch it back every time; though there may be enough bumps and rattles I might not notice the vent flap! LOL!

On our current TT (Rockwood Windjammer) the exhaust flap was siliconed shut! I had to break the tabs in order to get it to open. Then it was replaced under warranty. Once you get the hang of how the latches work, it's actually a lot easier to open and close it.
