Coupler Locks for Storage

What is everyone using for coupler locks when storing your travel trailer? We just took delivery on a new Whitehawk 26RK. Our old coupler lock doesn’t fit the new coupler. Any recommendations? Thanks for your help.

The problem with most coupler locks is they can be cutoff in less then 30 seconds with a cordless tool.

Like Sundancer330 said, a battery operated cutoff tool and vrit... it''s off!

Thanks for the input. I am currently using a lock similar to the Reeae, but the new coupler has been reconfigured. I will need to measure My old lock and compare measurements to the recommendations. Thanks for The feedback.

I use a cheap 3-peices system, similar to the Reece tow power kind. I figure it's enough to slow down anyone who doesn't have the right tools, which is enough for me.

My storage place is reasonable secure, and in campsites, I'm never that far away.

Great video Rustynuts , Interesting site. Proves old adage, “locks only stop honest people. “ 3 seconds with a shim and the lock is off or one second with a hammer and same result.

We had thieves try to steal our Camper in a storage facility that had chain link fence, Barbed wire, video and a code access driveway.

They broke off Both locks, a coupler lock and one of those over the coupler locks. They couldn't figure out how to work the elec jack as I have a battery cutoff switch. So... They ripped open the battery box, removed the inline fuse and clearly beat the jack with a hammer.

My guess is they were coming back the next night as they cleaned up all the debris.

I now own the BEST of market lock made by Proven Industries. www.provenlocks.com

It is not cheap, but definitely worth it. They have videos on their web site that show how easy it 8s to break other locks. Worth the watch.

I finally feel safe about having my trailer stolen.

Cubfan,

Let us know what you end up getting. I must have tried a number of ball hitch locks before I gave up. My camper has an extra large flange, so I could not find one that worked (that was reasonably priced for me). I eventually settled on a simple hitch pin lock and then lower the front of the camper so a truck will have some difficulty hooking up to it. Then I remove the fuse going to the jack. It won’t stop anyone, but even seconds in delaying them will help.

As said locks are for keeping honest people honest. If they want it, they will find a way. If there is a lock on it but not the next 3 sitting next to you they will not bother with yours.

Lots of car break ins in the Milwaukee metro area in recent months, and in nice neighborhoods? Why? People leave their cars unlocked!

All that said you need to assess how safe your storage is.

We use a blockhead lock on the coupler, and we keep our insurance current.

How about a boot on the wheel? Anyone have a opinion on that?

I like the number of deterants like John from Central Florida is using. We purchased a Trimax pin lock. Then have lowered the coupler significantly and have a battery cutoff switch. I am considering a x-chuck for stability and have looked at a couple with wheel locks. Just one more added layer of protection. Like Homer said...if they want it...

I tried that one and had to return it- it’s not big enough to fit over the lip on the hitch of my 265RLS Jayflight

Great Lock

I use a Proven Industries coupler lock. Their website 8s the best place to learn about them as it has videos.

It is expensive, but, once you have a TT theft or attempt, like me, you will want one too.

Website is:
https://www.provenlocks.com

They are nice people to atalk to on the phone if you have questions.

Good luck
