cover or carport
hey all, spring is just around the corner can't wait.
Question, money aside, what do you think is best a carport or cover, a carport would keep the rain and snow off the roof but blowing rain and snow would hit the sides. A cover will keep the whole TT dry. I live in Tennessee so we don't generally get a lot of snow. Again money is not an issue.

I'd go with a carport. You can add sides to a carport to keep rain and the sun off the sides and rear of the trailer.

X2
The carport will also be useable year round to keep the worst of the weather off, where you'd have to "fight" with a cover to get it on/off

Covers are a lot of work.
If I had the space a large carport, with room to open the slides and awning. Walls going down on two or three sides.

Thanks, I think I knew the answer before I ask the ?
DW said if we did a carport there was no way she would have one of the prefab steel ones so that means me building a stick frame one. not a problem as I have built several houses just a lot of work.

Make it a longer than the TT, I went to a longer 5W and it barley fits. Have water and power you can wash and keep plugged in. I only have 20amp in the car port but it keeps the fridge cold and batteries up.

Make your RV port extra, extra oversize. I made mine 14' tall because my last MH was 12'6". Also give yourself plenty of room on the sides to open doors, deploy slides, and have at least a foot left over on each side. You'll also want at least two feet on each end to keep most of the rain off. So my thing would be to overbuild, overbuild, overbuild. Besides that, someday you'll decide you want more than a 22' trailer. My original MH was 26' and now I'm up to 32'. RV port is 32'. Therefore I end up with wet ends on the MH.

thanks for the advice I thought I would make it a couple of feet longer than the TT but again I might make it 10 foot or so longer incase we go bigger. if not I can park my lawn tractor under it with the TT

Hoppers4 is right on I went from 25 ft to 33ft and leaving room behind to walk the nose is just under the 35ft. I can deploy the slides, open the steps and back my TV next to the 5W just missing the slide with the TV bed.
Now to find a way to stop the birds nesting ..... and the mess they leave on the 5W.

New carport will be coming soon. Glad I didn't get it done right away. Original plan was to just cover the TT. However the new TV is too large for the garage. So it'll be in the carport as well. So it needs to be much wider than the original plan.

Carport, hands down. I would guess that very few people actually cover their RV every single time they are home, immediately after getting home. Get home late or in inclement weather, don't want to deal with it. Going back out in 2 weeks, don't want to deal with it. Cover put away wet before the weekend trip and still wet, don't want to deal with it. Its windy when you get home, don't want to deal with it.
Carport... back under it.
Its more expensive at first, but it a cover costs $300 and lasts 3 years, they quickly get expensive. My $2400 carport (18' wide, 31' long, 10' legs) will last WAY longer and be WAY more effective as it covers it all the time. Mine is wide enough to leave the slide open and provide easy and dry access to load or unload, no matter the weather. It keeps the snow load off the roof (had almost 3' of snow earlier this year... that's a lot of weight on the roof!).
My father in law had a cover for his camper and was VERY diligent about covering it, storing the cover when not in use, drying it out, etc. He just bought a new camper and is getting a carport. Too much work covering and uncovering.
