Anyone have suggestions for a decent quality dashcam?

I got a Transcend Drive Pro from Amazon at a reasonable price. It has wifi capability also. You want the cam to record the dumb person that causes a crash or to record that special moment.

There was a previous thread that discussed this topic. The posts for it can be read here.

A friend of mine uses a go pro but the memory on it is not good. He deletes it all the time, he has it incase of an accident.

You can put quite a bit of memory on the Go Pro and dial back on the resolution to increase your video time. It provides an excellent picture for recording your adventures.

I use an app for my Android smartphone called Daily Roads Voyager. I mount it on a Ram suction cup mount with an X-grip holding the phone.

An iPhone would work too and there is a pretty cool time lapse app out there for it as well no cant remember the name but there are probably several. I think it would be really fun to get a time lapse of an entire trip.

On our last trip I had my iPhone mounted to the dash to use for a gps so I couldn't really use it for pics or video along the way like I wanted to. Kind of dangerous to be switching to camera and back to the GPS while driving.

Another great option, as someone else mentioned is using a go pro.

I use a GoPro. Just as Quahog said, you can put a lot of memory in them and dial back on the video resolution and get a lot of record time on them. As well they can be set to take timed stills, timed short recordings (like record for 30 seconds every 2 minutes. I also use mine on my snow machine when I ride, and at times if I am having to do it by myself, I utilize my phone and the suction cup mount and put the camera on the back of the TT and bluetooth it to my phone and use it as a back up camera.

look the NVGun40 channel on youtube to get an idea of quality and clarity while out riding around. I will be making videos caught while using my gopro as a dash cam of idiots who seem to forget about how to drive in snow fairly shortly.

Great video NVGun40! Love the Alan Parsons, Goo Goo Dolls, and I'm guessing Meatloaf music too.

Your guess of Meatloaf is correct. The second song is Jim's theme a solo piece by John Rzeznik (without the rest of the of goo goo dolls) (nice catch though).
I will add, while using my GoPro as a dash cam, I only save small bits and pieces, of interesting things. Otherwise, when I am done with a trip, I erase what I am not keeping.
