A good converter or charge controller will do the same thing as part of regular maintenance except it is usually called an equalization cycle. You can sometimes program the high voltage setting for this cycle so you don't exceed the max voltage of other things on the circuit.
Our charge controller is programmed for 15 volts for this cycle but I have to trigger it manually. It would be nice if it did it once a month automatically.

Hope it works out for you as well as it did in that article. That article is a little fishy though. I doubt the restored battery held 13.85 volts for 4 months before they had time to test it out.
