Unless you're a lot faster than me, it's cooled down enough by the time I get unhooked. Idling a new truck is hard on the diesel particulate filter anyway. So like the man says check in, get her parked and unhooked and shut it off.

I try to stay on the high road in life, with that in mind I am confident that the overwhelming majority of RV'rs that idle their engine after or before hitting the road only do so because they believe they are doing what is best for their engine (right or wrong). So with that in mind, I don't ever work myself up over such things. Of course if someone purposely pulled as close to my campsite as possible and had their exhaust pointed in my direction and left their engine running on purpose to annoy me, that would be different, although I have never seen anyone actually do that. ~CA

My ram 2500 diesel will idle until I am set up and unhooked to give the exhaust system turbo back time to cool off. Deleted so no particulate filter to worry about.

Cool down EGT help with engine heat. Never just turn off your diesel engine after hard pulling.
