Do Ice Cubes in the RV Black Tank Really Work?

I know that this topic has hit the subject area on JOF and DW found this INTERESTING Youtube video doing an actual test. Granted a TT will bounce around a lot more, but it still is interesting.

Let the comments begin....

That was a cool test, but I think he made one big mistake. The tank was almost empty. I bet if it was about 1/2 full of water that the ice would have done a lot better of a cleaning job. It would have sloshed all over.

He made a good point regarding that... if there is too much water in the tank it will not clean the bottom, as ice floats.

I did try using Ice Cubes in the Black tank Had about 5 gal water and 20 lbs of cubes Trip was about 80 miles As soon as we checked in I pulled to the dump station and emptied the tank I can not say just how good of a job the cubes did but what all came out of the take made it appear as if it does work at the very least It shouldn't do any harm BTW my black tank is only 22 gal

RV Digestit. Follow directions on the bottle for cleaning the tank, although it can be used as a regular chemical. You'll have stuff come out of the tank that you never knew could be in there. I love the guys tests on the sprayers and flushing the tanks. I had just posted a comment on another thread about that, that just running the flushers with the valve open doesn't work. I've always did the fill and dump thing, but the video kind of proved my theories I had always gone by.
