Dodge Ram 2500 Issue

Hi everyone,
Looking for advice dealing with an issue I am having with my truck and the dealership. I own a 2011 Ram 2500 Diesel with 98k. Runs great but the check engine light keeps coming on. I have spent thousands replacing sensors but never actually repairing anything mechanically wrong.
I brought it in and dropped another 1400 to replace a sensor so I could pass emissions. The day after I picked it up the light came back on with the same error codes. Brought it back and they told me I needed new fuel injectors at $800 a piece and I need six. Plus labor. I said no and would sell the truck first as it runs fine. They suggested a flushing for 800 and said it might fix the sensor issue. I agreed

Called yesterday to pick it up and they told me it broke down when they were test driving it after the flushing. Now I have to replace the injectors because it won’t run.

It ran fine when I dropped it off and in fact we went camping over the Fourth and the truck pulled like the day I bought it.

Can injectors go tha bad that quickly or did they likely do something wrong when they flushed it?

Thanks in advance

Wow sorry to hear about this.

What is the service manager saying about their ongoing approach?

I would tow it away from the dealership and take it to a known, reputable independent specialist and see what is going on. The dealership is taking the "shotgun" approach to troubleshooting and changing out parts (at your expense needless to say) and only wants to continue down their unknown path.

Get good records of what the dealership has done and charged you for.

I know here in California we have the bureau of automotive repair and I would have the equivalent in your state look into the situation.

Good luck and I hope that it all gets resolved soon.

He is insisting the injectors just failed coincidentally when they test drove it.

Injectors don’t go from fine to dead that quickly do they?

The flush killed the injectors. Sorry this happened. Mopar has a reman pack of 6 injectors for $2255 + 720.00 core charge. Don't buy them individually. Heck of a lot better than $792 ea.

Thanks. If I had known the flush would kill the injectors I would never have done it. Did they do something wrong or is that what happens when the injectors are bad.

Another misdiagnosis from Dodge did that to me on my 06 Ram 3500.Had an engine miss, no codes would show. They had me replace injectors, had same exact problem. Turned out the ECM or engine computer was failing! Bought on line for about 600 came from Cummins. No more problems, wasted a lot of money on injectors.FYI company who we bought injectors from would not warranty them unless we added Mopar extreme fuel filter. Mopars fuel filters are really sub par! Thanks

Tell them to STOP right now before they replace another item on your truck!! Find out the exact codes that your truck is displaying, find out what diagnostics they did on your truck to come to the conclusion.

Common rail injectors don't fail all 6 at once. When they fail, there are tell tail signs, white smoke at idle, hard starts especially when the truck is hot, increase of oil level due to fuel dilution from a leaking injector, etc. Sometimes we replace all six if it makes sense. But, that isn't necessarily the rule.

My best advise to you is get that truck out of that dealer right now and find a good independent diesel shop in your area to give you an actual diagnosis.

If you can get the codes and exactly what has been done so far, please post it here and I'll do my best to point you in the right direction. Also, where exactly are you and maybe i can recommend a good shop to have it towed to.

Give me a minute and I look in to who to contact around you.

In the meantime, can you list for me exactly what your dealer has replaced up to this point, what sensors?

Here are a couple for you to at least contact. Unfortunately, I haven't done any business directly with them. But, they come up on my list of suppliers in your area. Give them a call, talk it over with them, and maybe they can be of assistance to you.

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for all the responses. Turns out there was miscommunication between the tech and the supervisor. The issue was not fuel injectors at all, although the flush did not fix the P0191 Fuel Pressure Sensor. Turns out a transmission issue arose during the test drive. Something about a valve breaking. In any event, its an $800 repair so good news considering what it could have been. But, I AM DONE WITH DIESEL. Will be trading this in asap.

Thanks again everyone.

I'm happy it worked out for you. I can't blame you for being frustrated. However, before you make the decision to trade, stop by a reputable independent diesel shop and speak with them about your issues and how they can be solved.

I would not give them the satisfaction of a trade. First they steal from you on repairs, then big time on the trade. And beat you up again on the new truck! In my opinion.

I'm with you. I'd never go back to this dealer ever again. Check that! Maybe I'd do a slow roll through by their sales area with my truck bought from another dealer...

Sometimes it is just time to trade in, sometimes it isn't.

I decided to fix out 2009 Dodge instead of trade it in. First a water pump failed. Soon after that the dreaded turbo VGT failure. After that one had an electrical issue show up. Another month and an oil leak. I figured it was time to let it go and got a new Ford. Yes, still a diesel. I like them even if they are a bit more expensive in the long run.

I do wish I had traded in the Dodge when I first considered it. Then I would have saved several thousand dollars in repairs.

Common rail injectors

Common rail injectors can have a all at once failure to prevent truck from starting . If a injector sticks and prevents the rail fuel pressure from building this would cause a no start. Fuel contamination can cause this . Capping off rail ports for each injector individually may find the bad one but sometimes they all are damaged and all will need to be replaced
