Dometic A/C won't cool

Have a 15000 BTU Dometic unit that will not cool. Model #B59516.xx1j0.

The compressor is running but cools very little, like maybe 5 degrees below ambient. Plenty of air flow, just no cooling. It's on my son's trailer and we're looking for suggestions. Anyone ever try to have one of these units recharged?

Trailer is just over a year old.

Any experience with this issue would be appreciated.

Thanks

I donít believe thereís a way to recharge or add freon. If thereís a chill grill, remove the grill to see if the divider between the intake and exhaust sides has shifted. Possibly itís sucking in cold air and not running long enough to cool the trailer.

There is a tap that can be used to add refrigerant to a closed unit. It clamps on and pierces the line with a valve that can be used for charging. There are probably instructions on how to do it on You Tube but it's probably something best left to someone that has done it in the past and has the right equipment.

It doesn't need to be charged, it's probably not installed correctly.

Pop off the grill and make sure the copper tube for the thermostat knob is on the intake side and not the output side.

Forgive me but what is a chill grill? Anything that we can see seems to be in the right spot but maybe I am missing something.

It was working great until about 2 months ago. Is this something that can slide or move on it's own?

Ya I didn't think it needed to be charged either because the compressor is running. Will take a closer look at these things and let you know what we find. Thank you for the replies, keep em coming.

Yes, at least on mine (Coleman Mach 3) I had these two problems. The bulb for the thermostat was on the wrong side and the foam partition between the intake and output side had slipped and was blending air.

If the cold output air hits the thermostat bulb it will think the need for cool air has been satisfied and shut off the compressor.

The compressor running and the evaporator coils not getting cold could mean it needs to be charged. That said I mentioned charging because the OP asked if the unit can be charged and some people are under the impression that a closed unit cannot be charged. They can be with the right equipment.

That said if everything else is in the proper place and the thermostat is working correctly the thing to do before charging is finding the leak.
