Done for the year

Today was a bittersweet moment when I took the trailer to the storage yard where it sleeps until spring. When I got there, the lady who owns it apologized because she was busy with some other clients; I say that's fine and she told me where she wants me to park it. "I have a challenge for you," she said. "Between the sea can and the school bus." I'm confident enough in my skill that I'm sure I can do it, and I trust her enough that if she says it will fit, then it will fit. Well, it did, with about a foot and a half to spare on either side.

She helped guide me in and I handed her one of the walkie talkies that DW and I use when we're backing in to a site; this is another situation where there was no doubts with communication. I put the trailer right where she wanted it, and she assured me that it's staying there until spring.

I like going to this particular storage facility. It's close to home, access is by appointment only, it's a small independent business (which I always try to support), and the rates are about half of what the RV dealers charge for winter storage. It suits me perfectly. And now I get my side of the driveway back!

I am fortunate to have the ability to store mine in my backyard but it still hurts to cover her up and put her to sleep for winter. We still have one more trip planned for Halloween weekend. After that it's lights out till spring...

We have to back our motorhome into a similar spot each time just between the house and the wall. Not much room for error.

We are just getting into the best season for camping here in AZ. Hopefully temps stay below 100F for the remainder of the year.

We're not quite done yet, still have a trip planned for Thanksgiving to Branson, MO. When we get home I'll park it in my shop, it's insulated but not heated but it doesn't get too cold in it so I don't worry about winterizing, I keep it plugged in and a little ceramic heater in it on low. Feels pretty good to get in there and have a beer when I'm working in the shop, so I guess you could say I get to use her year 'round

I feel your pain North..we have a trip planned next Saturday. Goin to the Oregon coast for a week and then the 5er goes into storage. It's always sad to put it away for the winter.

We too have a great storage lot. Been using it for 9 years and I keep the same pull thru spot for only $1.00 per foot so there's no complaint from me. It's a private lot in a senior mfg home park.... fenced and secure. Beats taking up half of my driveway.

Happy trails ya'll.

The only good thing about this time of year is with the trailer in storage, it frees up both time and space so I can concentrate on doing some of the stuff I haven't had time to do all summer -- because we were camping!

Feeling your pain. Just finishing off my cup of coffee and we are off to park the Hitch-Up Hilton for the winter. Finished all the winterizing yesterday afternoon. Really like the idea of taking a photo before we leave, that way if there is any damage come spring I'll have a pretty good idea of who was parked beside me when we left it. Better get rolling soon though, want to get out there and hopefully get a decent spot, lots of trailers will be rolling back in later this afternoon from their last long weekend campout. Almost all of the CG's around here close this weekend.

+1

It seems I let a lot of things go around the house during this beautiful summer camping season we had! I've got some catching up to do around the house! LOL!

We've got two more trips planned in October. I'll really like to do a December trip if the weather holds.

That is a concern of mine. The school bus seems like it's a permanent fixture in the storage yard; for the few years I've been going there, I don't think it's moved one inch. But the containers are different; the lady who runs the place says her son-in-law has been dropping them off and she doesn't really have the room for them. But since where the photo was taken is in one corner of the yard, maybe it's going to be there long term.

If it is, and my trailer is tucked in between the container and the bus, it'll be more sheltered from the Canadian Prairie Winter that we're about to face. So I have more than one reason why I hope the container doesn't move!

Actually was very happy with my location for the winter. Managed to actually get a pull through beside a newer HTT on one side and the island for the hydro pole on the other. Only need to worry about the one side and the back now.

Helped another owner as I was putting her to bed. He arrived in a panic because we had slight frost the night before, and he hadn't winterized yet. Put his mind to rest as the temp needs to get below freezing for a while before things start freezing up in the TT. New to TT's, he also didn't really know how to winterize. Helped him empty his HW tank, and open up the low point drains. He had an experienced buddy coming in later that afternoon to help with running the AF.

I am putting ours to bed, just waiting for the windstorm on Sat to pass before I winterize and throw my new ADCO cover on it before I park it beside my house.

We have 2 maybe 3 more weekends planned. Then I will winterize and park her alongside my house off the driveway. When we had our house built, we had a 24 foot cruiser (boat) and had the driveway built wide enough so the boat would not take normal use drive space. Now, we park the trailer there and in the winter, just push it back alongside the house.
