Don't get tricked by Mint Mobile $15/mo WIFI

I know its only 4GB per month but that's enough for my emails and headlines.
And if you use up the 4GB they cut you down to 250KB speed but that's enough, hell I started out at 110 B with no "K" years ago .
DON'T BELIEVE IT, Mint Mobile will CUT YOU OFF AT 4GB.
Something drained 2GB last night and no access this morning at any speed.
(Back to a hotspot on Consumer Cellular on my phone.)

QUOTE:-
If you use all of your data, no worries, we don’t charge overages or ever cut you off. If you finish all your data for the month, data speeds will slow.

I think a call to your Attorney General's Consumer Affairs Office would be the next step since you have the ad documenting otherwise.

UPDATE, Partly my problem.

Apology to Mint. Something on my computer (or a WIFI invader) sucked up 2GB of data during the night so zero was left. Perhaps Windows tried to update during the night?
Whatever was sucking data was sucking it faster than Mint would supply so it acted like it was cut off.
After rebooting the computer WIFI was available.

It took over 3 minutes for Bing to find Ookla speed test.
It took a minute to load before the test was available.
Result of the test is

DOWNLOAD TEST ERROR
A socket error occurred during the download test. A firewall could be blocking the connection or the server might be having some issues. Please try again later.

With patience and perseverance I got the AT&T test to run, result showed Download 0.00 Meg. Upload 0.01 Meg.

I guess it will work for my emails so long as I have a cup of tea, only open small ones and only one at a time.

Maybe it will get better since Mint was bought by T-Mobile?

Again, as Ann-Marie mentioned, this isn't the fault of Mint or Ryan or Wassim.

She used up the data limit, and they slowed her service down as promised. The unresponsive PC part is what most Windows computers do when they think they've lost internet -- go catatonic.

On our last camping trip something on the work laptop sucked up over 20 gigs in 2 10+ gig events in one day. Anyone know how to limit what some devices can download or give some sort of warnings before I get an email stating I am almost out of data?

If you're using a Windows 10 or 11 based PC, set your Wi-Fi connection to a metered connection. You can also set a data limit. This should get you started - https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/...d-24714e851659

I'm not a Mac user, but I would suspect that they also provide such a setting.

If you've ever tried to use data at less than 4G, even on the cell phone, it's close to impossible. Everything on the phone relies on decent speed to do anything these days.

Come to my house. I can show you 1x . Nothing will download on cell.
Google Maps is such a data hound.. We used it in Canada where we were gig limited. Sometimes I was over limit after one morning coffee.

I remember years ago driving north on 95 through the DC area coming back from Myrtle Beach (one of our first trips about 15 years ago). Pulled out my fancy new phone and used the built in nav. Learned very quickly about roaming charges... Made sure my next GPS app could use downloaded maps.

If you have automatic updates turned on, it's easy for multi-gigabytes to be used downloading operating system and/or other large updates without your knowledge.

We switch from Over 55 Magenta to Magenta max when traveling. T-Mobile gives us 40 GB of hotspot on our phones with Max then slows us down but not fully stopped. Only on using phone as hotspot. Phones are never slowed down. Vets get an even better deal!
If you switch to T-mobile make sure you get a referral. It gives people like me some $ and gives the new customer a small discount on the 1st month.

Consumer Cellular allows 50GB before throttling. Does not affect phone usage

Like RogerR we use T-Mobile however we use the 55 Magenta Max all the time. Unlimited data on the phone and no slowdown. It works well most of the time. This year we are staying Mohave Valley, AZ. T-Mobile sucks here so we found Visible which is part of Verizon. Runs $30 a month for unlimited everything Data, Hotspot and talk/text. Added a second line on our phones with a virtual sim so both numbers work. When we leave here we will just pause or cancel Visible when we leave here. Most likely pause as we can turn the line back on anytime if we find ourselves in anothr area without good service on our T-Mobile service.
