Door not staying closed

I plan to take the handle off and look at the assembly and am comfortable doing so but thought I would post in case there is an obvious place I should be focused.

After a trip my door won’t stay closed. I’m using the deadbolt as a temporary measure but the latch that normally activates is not staying closed.

With the door open, I can freely move the latch piece back and forth without it engaging and locking.

Any tips on what to be looking for when I take the handle off and open the mechanism?

I posted in general as doors have common mechanics but if it matters it is a 23 Greyhawk 30z.

Had a problem once where the striker plate came loose. This made it so it would not latch. Might be worth a check.

Interestingly I came out to it today to work on some stuff and it works perfectly. Wondering if something just needs a bit of oil but nothing is detached or broken. Given I can always use the deadbolt, I’m not going to mess with it other than a little squirt of Teflon on the outer mechanism and just watch if it does it again.

Our door latch does the same thing when it needs some lube. I always throw the deadbolt and lock it, when we travel.
