Draining Fresh Water Tank

This weekend was our first camping trip where we only have electric hook-ups.

We filled our 25-gal fresh water tank Thursday when we arrived and this morning prior to leaving we still had 1/3 tank left.

The CG worker said that is was ok to drain it on the gravel campsite pad, which I did since it had already rained and everything was wet anyways.

But is this the right way to do it or is it more proper to just run the sinks and let the pump fill the grey water tank? I'm a little worried about running the pump semi-continuous if we transferred it to the grey tank or black tank. All three of our tanks are 25 gallons.

So if you still have fresh water in the tank and don't want to travel with the extra weight, how do you drain the tank?

That's how I always drain fresh water.

Just dump it?

The attendant was driving by on his golf cart as I was returning to our site from bath house. He stopped when he noticed the trickle as I was walking up behind him. I told him it was our fresh water tank and he said "oh that's fine". I guess he may have thought we were slowly draining something else, but the little clear drain hose and valve are easy to see under our TT.

For a minute I thought I was in trouble, I'm so used to draining it on our gravel parking pad at home when I'm de-winterizing I didn't even give it a second thought until he stopped this morning.

I open mine as I prepare to leave the campground and hit the road. Mine is a pop-up.

I have stopped just after leaving the CG and opened the drain valves. Yes, I leave a small trail of water down the highway but it takes a long time to drain out of those small valves.

Depending on the campground, the type of site I am in, and how far I will be travelling, I will usually just open it prior to leaving and let it drain. I like some water in the tank in case of an emergency bathroom stop along the route...

I agree, I always drain mine after I get home just in case we need water along the way.

I leave a trail of fresh water too. I've seen it drained at the camp site too. If ur worried, haul it home then drain it. 1/3 of a 25 gal shouldn't weigh you down much either. A little water in the tank could come in handy on the way home.

We very infrequently camp w/o water. Depending on where I was, I would drain in either in the site, if I didn't create a mud hole for the next camper, or let it trickle just before leaving as you travel.

I always carry about 1/3 tank of fresh for flushing on the road.
