Driving

We are in our first trip from Florida to Charleston SC. Driving the 29 ft Motor home my husband says is hard to control. Maybe to much play in steering wheel or just a matter of getting used to it. Our RV is a Jayco Entegra. Thanks

I'm not sure how old your motorhome is, but getting a front-end alignment is always recommended. That helped ours.

Check the pressure in your tires. Keep them properly inflated.

It depends on what he thinks is hard to control. Others have said they motorhomes feel very loose, and dart around when passed by a semi-truck. To correct those, others have installed upgraded steering stabilizers. Others have upgraded the suspension components.

If it's just play in the steering wheel, then I'd take it in to a Ford Truck dealer and see what they say. I don't notice significant play in ours. Granted, it's not a Ferrari, but I don't have to "saw the wheel back and forth" to stay on track.

Thanks for the info. Our RV is new. The steering feels loose. We will check with a Ford dealer.

Can't overstate checking your tire pressure. Also, if there is a range of recommended pressure, you want to be at the top.

Sounds like tie rods and an alignment to me.

Could be too much weight behind the rear axle.

Congratulations on the new MH. I have never heard if Jayco does any kind of alignment on MHs once the build them up. I suspect the toe-in and caster is set to whatever the OEM chassis manufacture builds it to.

One thing I would add, is stop by a CAT scale and get it weighted. Determine each axle weight. This will also help you determine what tire pressure you should be running (check out the OEM tire pressure charts). You may have a little to much weight behind the axles. It would not surprise me you need an alignment, or some suspension upgrades to improve the handling.
