Electric Awning Wont move :(

While camping this week. The awning decided that it didn't want to retract. I can hear the motor working but the awning is free spinning. Anybody have any advice prior to me dissecting it? Also, are both sides supposed to use a motor or just 1? I only hear a motor working in the front one. Thank you all in advance.

Only one side is attached to the motor. There is a little pin in there that probably broke. Fairly easy fix.

Try taking the cover off the motor end and see if the pin/key has come out. You may not have to take the whole cover off- look for a small cover that is only about an inch by 1/2 inch that will pull out. The locking pin is kinda shaped like a two pronged fork and has to line up with a flat spot on the end of the roller tube to go into position. Turn the roller tube back and forth until it lines up and you can push it into position- you may have to use needle nose pliers to get into the small opening. I don't think it would have broken- if it did I think you'd have bigger problems as to what would have caused it to break of. Hope this helps.

With the shear pin sheared I'm assuming manual retraction is possible? But are these new fangled awnings still sprung to assist in rolling the canvas?

You'd think if a pin sheared and the motor isn't holding it open, the awning would slam closed. The inner spring tries to close it. Been a while since I had to jack with a broke one.

Ugh! That'll be a rough day then... with a tall trailer you'd be looking at standing on a picnic table to furl that thing nice and tight enough to get it back home to the shop.

There is in fact a spring on the 9100. Here's a picture of both ends, motor end / spring end.

Here is a copy of the page from the instruction manual. Give it a look over and see if you missed a step somewhere.

Hope I did not mislead. I am not familiar with the Dometic electrics.

That's the only one I know much about due to issues a few years ago. Don't know on the CF and LCI. They don't have a spring? Which one do you have norty?
