Extended Warranty

We are expecting to get our new camper X20E in the next few weeks. They are sent me infromation regarding an extended warranty. At this point we have declined the offered since Jayco already offers a decent warranty.

Could I get your thoughts on this? This is a first new camper so we are quite green around the ears.

I personally like extended warranties on evrything. It's just insurance incase something happens. You CAN negotiate the extended warranty price down to half in most cases. I got a 7 year extended warranty on my 2012 32BHDS for $900. So it comes into play after Jaycos 2 year warranty giving me 9 years of total coverage. To me it's worth it, TT appliances and repairs can be very expensive. At my dealer I have a zero deductible parts and labor, if i'm out of town and have to have it done somewhere else its $50. I like it, seems most people don't.

My general policy is to avoid extended warranties on anything. Be sure to read any warranty carefully as some are quite limited on what they will actually pay for.

I probably should avoid them too because I almost never end up using them, they just make me feel good knowing i'm covered, like car or homeowners insurance.

As a matter of fact the last pop-up I bought was a 2006 select HW with shower, cassette toilet, stove, oven, microwave, water heater, etc. Had it for 6 years and the only thing I had to do was tighten a fitting under the sink to the water filter. Jayco is top notch quality to me with the best appliance selection as well. With quality this good I am probably an idiot for getting the extended warranty, but again it just makes me feel good! And the EXTENDED warranty is transferable or refundable for time not used when trading in.

This is a question that has mixed opinions on the extended warranty and both opinions (yes or no) have their merits. I am 2 years into my 7 year extended warranty and have never had any problems that would need warranty work but it feels good knowing that if there is a problem in the next 5 years, I can still pull the 5er in and let the dealer fix whatever is wrong (and hopefully covered).

I find that if I buy the extended warranty then I wont need it, but if I don't get it than I need it.

If I could have purchased a 7 year extended warranty for $900 on my trailer than I would have gotten it.

Chances are...we will downsize in a few years, or so, because we have 2 teenage boys (ages almost 14 & 16) and I imagine may not camp with us when they enter college and beyond. We also have a 6 yr old daughter and a smaller bunkhouse model will be perfect for her & a friend. My question...Does the extended warranty transfer to the new TT you purchase?

No, it doesn't but you can trade it in with TT for increased value because it does transfer to new owner, or you can get refunded for the amount of time you dont use. My last one I traded in still had 3 years left and that was refunded on prorate by warranty company.

My prior owner had 2 yrs left on his transferable warranty--it was a selling point for me. He had fronted $1770 for 7 yr plan, it cost me $50 to transfer it. I declared myself the winner in that deal.

We paid 1500 for 8 years on site. So if anything goes wrong they will fix it at camp or home. And if it can't be fixed on site they pick it up fix it and bring it back! Well worth the peice of mind for us!

I agree.

We have not spent as much on repairs as the warranty would have cost.
