EZ-Lube axel how to tell?

Hi there I went and finalized the deal on my 2011 Jayswift 184slx and in the brochure it states it has the ez-lube axle. The dealer says it is only on the larger models. If it does not have it then I guess there is not much I can do about it. From what I can tell the ez-lube have the black rubber dust cap in the middle and mine just has the standard metal dust cap. So I a betting I don't have the system. I emailed Jayco to ask if there literature is in correct.

The plus side is I went in all ready to battle to get a battery but the dealer said it was part of the deal along with a starter kit

The ez lube system has the rubber cap that you pry out to access the zerk grease fitting. If you have the metal cap, you do not have the ez lube system. And yes a battle should not be necessary to get a battery!

All that Dexter's eazy lube axles are good for is getting wheel bearing grease past the seals and into the brakes. They need to be taken out and cleaned and packed.

You only give them one or two squirts with a grease gun... people that blow out the seals pump and pump and pump in the grease...

I owned a triple axle fifth wheel with Dexter EZ Lube axles for fourteen years. Never experienced any problems with greasing bearings. Great investment, other than the current Never Lube bearings. Contact Jayco and determine if the EZ Lube axles are an option. I agree with Seann's posting. Generally a grease bypass is caused from using an air grease gun (Don't use per Dexter manual) or the operator is to "exuberant" in rapidly pumping the grease gun. Let the grease enter in a slow manner to adjust for the pressure.

I also believe it is a good system when used properly. Dexters instructions say use a standard grease gun, pump grease until new grease is observed (from the front). Remember the front is open when the rubber cap is removed, thus reducing pressure on the rear seal, which as said you do not want to compromise and get grease on the brakes. The wheels should be jacked up and turning while pumping the grease.

They may work for some people but if you have ever had to replace the brake shoes because of grease your outlook will be different.

After,..34 yrs in the boat business,..and i can say,..grease on interior wheel ,brakes etc,...is simply due to 3 things,...bad seal,...bad seal due to over greasing...,too much pressure, forces seal outwards, letting grease flow past it,Overheating of bearings, heat damaging seal,,allowing grease past it,......bearing buddies,..ez lube,et,etc,..are all good systems,......when used properly.

I was told by my trailer service tech to get the wheel off the ground then as you pump in the gease slowly rotate the tire at the same time. If you fail to do this there is a good chance you will push the seal out.

It depends on how much you are pulling the trailer.

Let me know how you make out camping in your new Swift SLX 184BH. I just recently put a deposit on one and am anxiously waiting for it to arrive.

If you follow the instruction in the Dexter manual you will not have this problem.

So is it based on miles? If so, after how many miles should you do it?
